Hot take: RHEL "rebuilds" were never about actual 1:1 RHEL compatibility for most users but "close enough" with less drama and overhead. When you needed better than "close enough", you bought . Simple proposition. The threat seems to be that the new community rebuilds were just too good at that "close enough" with RHEL security patches hitting them before they were in CentOS Stream. This change specifically impacts those security patches that hit RHEL first.

If your server enforces a colonialistic "English-only" rule and forbids languages like Irish and Welsh (or any other minority language) from being used, consider moving to a more inclusive server (and keep posting in your language!)

Car tech I wish would make a comeback:

  • Turbo diesels
  • Manual Transmissions
  • Mechanical fuel pumps and injectors
  • Full service repair manuals
  • Normalized owner maintainability from new
  • Full sized spare tire with jack included
  • A radio that supports physical media and requires no subscription/login service of any kind
  • Analog guages for odometer, oil pressure, oil temp, water temp, turbo boost, battery voltage, etc.
  • Built to last 20+ years

My on install* turns 10 years old this year.

  • It was migrated from ownCloud to Nextcloud and both Nextcloud and the OS have been kept regularly upgraded to supported versions throughout that time.

As much flack as I've given over source shenanigans, they've kept AWX and available to the public, very much to their credit. Tower was proprietary when they bought it and they opened it and kept it open.

And yes, this post is really about . Don't do false equivalent arguments. Hashicorp definitely did the worse thing.

I just want to clearly say that the telemetry discussions are not a "Red Hat conspiracy". I know tensions are understandably high right now, but this is legitimately a proposal and unlike most changes in RHEL, there actually is an opportunity for community input, and not just for assent or dissent, but also alternative ideas for improvement.

Looking for a diff tool that spits out valid yaml but only including the parts where there are differences between the two. I have some helm chart values yaml files that have gotten unnecessarily verbose.

My Thinkpad just got a firmware update to address a CVE in "jerryscript" - a javascript engine that appears to be oriented towards raspberry Pi's and hasn't had a release in nearly 3 years.

I'm afraid to ask, but why is there in my laptop's BIOS firmware?

UPDATE: I am bad at Google'ing CVEs! The CVE details aren't released yet: https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2023-5058

One of the mechanisms that let relicense their stack was the CLA. Whenever you see an "open core" shop (ie, they have proprietary "Enterprise" versions or extensions) and they require you to agree to a CLA before accepting a PR, be aware that the company may not be using in good faith and may relicense your contributions to be proprietary. Think twice about spending your time and efforts if such a move would bother you.

Idea: An manager, with a fancy web UI like , that can organize secrets by folders and deployment target (dev, staging, prod) and the CLI tool can translate those folders, keys, and values into structured YAML or JSON output in addition to environment variables. Additionally, it can import secrets into new projects with structure YAML/JSON into the format.

Something like this for the data backend: https://github.com/smithjm/etcd-export

If you contribute or publish BSD or MIT licensed code, someone else can use it in GPL, AGPL, BUSL, SSPL, or fully closed source proprietary software as long as they include the attribution license with it.

If you don't want people to use your code in proprietary software, then don't publish it with a permissive license nor sign a CLA that reassigns the copyright.

Again, I'm not telling anyone not to use permissive licenses, but to understand it. What redis and redict did are both legal.
