im amazed that ive still only ever seen "Help > Search for menu option" in mac programs. they've had it for years. its literally a 'command palette' but any program with menus can get it for free. so why the hell don't i ever see it on windows or linux, it's such an obviously good idea that saves a crazy amount of time for the user

I'm scared of France, Netherlands, and England. The US didn't get much worse. Everyone else has gotten a lot better.

So I've got this mac now, plugged into a KVM with my "real" computer, and I keep switching over to the Mac, starting very large downloads, and then KVMing back to Windows. And then later when I return to the mac I discover the download failed partway through. This has happened like 3 times. WTF could be happening? Is the mac going to sleep? How do I make it stop? All the useful options appear to have been removed from the Energy Saver control panel:

Someone was disliking the introduction of threads (no not THAT ) in a chat that introduced threads today.

I've seen folks in several communities bristle at threads in chat. And then I've seen threading catch on, and then I've seen people end up nudging people to please use threads because it helps in a busy space.

So ... I think it's not threading, it's just change that's hard.

@seachanger mighta been suggested but an intro bot on that server which boosted external posts on that hashtag might achieve this without an absolute ton of effort?

it would get spammed, everything does, regrettably. but it might work for a time, perhaps longer with a moderator to permit posts.

(I once used "favourite" as a UX to switch on/off per-toot behaviour for something like that, it means you have a moderation UI right there in the regular client)

In the middle of some twitter kerfuffle, I mentioned my commitment to the Internet Archive, and mentioned how I've had 80-100 hour weeks.

One of the bluechoads threw the now-threadbare comeback of "100 HOURS, REALLY" followed by three cry-laughing emoji.

Besides the comeback of "this guy paid $8 to get to the top of the reply pile", there's also the honest question of what I mean by 100 hours of work in a single week.

Let me explain. This is not advice.
