Remember the petition about "Require videogame publishers to keep games they have sold in a working state" & the response saying "Those selling games must comply with UK consumer law. They must provide clear information and allow continued access to games if sold on the understanding that they will remain playable indefinitely."

Well the Petitions Committee has stepped in and say it did not respond directly to the petitiion request

The OCS version of Simon The Sorcerer is quite impressive! I only have the PC CD version here, but luckily ADFs are readily available...

xadox,

@root42 is it better in colors than the PC version?

root42,
@root42@chaos.social avatar

@xadox no… VGA had 256 colors. Amiga 32 to 64-ish when using half brite mode. But the Amiga was a machine from 1985. so the achievement per se is pretty impressive.

@OutofPrintArchive I have never heard of this one. It looks like it has a ton of style.

I'm gonna have to look up some videos on youtube and see what it's like.

@Judeau

Oh it's a really fun game with just a few rough edges.
There's a PS3 version as well, which again, only released in Japan.
It's basically anime Lost Planet. 😄

It’s Friday, which means it’s Retro Game Of The Week time! This week, who you gonna call… yeah, them, as I delve into Ghostbusters for the Sega Master System and Sega Mega Drive!

@alexkidman for a young kid, it was difficult, that boss was always a pain. I think I beat it, but it was never one of my favourite games

alexkidman,
@alexkidman@aus.social avatar

@sortius Totally fair call -- as noted in my writeup, it's better than most movie games of its time, but not a great "game" in a play sense.

This is probably the only Gravis UltraSound-related thing I'll sensibly collect. This is the Gravis MIDI and Joystick Adapter, and I'm super thrilled to have picked one up for a reasonable price in this condition. At some point I'll carefully pull things out for a closer look, including scanning the paperwork, but in the meantime - did you ever have/use one of these? What'd you use it for/with? Let me know!

A photo of the back of the adapter package, showing some of the instructions.

Until now I do not own any storage system whatsoever for my Commodore C64 breadbin.

I am looking into several solutions like the SD2IEC (several) combined with a Final Cartridge III+ cartridge or an EPYX FASTLOAD cartridge.

The perfect yet pricy (for me) solution would be the Ultimate 1541 II-L cartridge.

Another one could be the Pi1541 but I haven't yet found any offer that can sell me the complete thing with the case ...

root42,
@root42@chaos.social avatar

@AndyGER i have the very same. Had it for ~4 years and it works great. The Epyx makes loading a breeze. Sometimes it’s incompatible, but then you can unplug the cartridge (power off first!) and drive the Pi via Micro USB.

@OutofPrintArchive The Mega Drive is king for shmups, I have so many, many of which have little differences between them, but I still have so much fun with all of them decades later.

I yearn for the day modern games capture that same kind of magic.

It was such a brilliant system wasn’t it. The SNES and MD perfectly complemented each other.
Just read somewhere that the home ports of Kyukyoku Tiger are a waste of time when you have the arcade game.
Someone clearly didn’t play the weird MD port where the bullets seem to predict where you’ll be. 😅

The one system that was on par with the MD back then was the PC-Engine though. Again just brilliant. Shame we never got it here in Europe.
