Which video games have been trapped on a hardware platform (console/handheld/headset/etc.) that you wish would be ported well?
I was reading about Oculus accounts that haven't been assimilated into Meta accounts being erased, & it got me thinking about games trapped on hardware platforms again. What are some of the games you wish would have good ports across different hardware?
Aside from everything Nintendo makes- with how they run the switch, I really wish they’d crash out of the console market- I would hope for the Bomberman Battle Royale game that was on Stadia only. It was some sort of deal to keep it there, but it was definitely a fun Bomberman game.
What kinds of games might you recommend with deep worldbuilding and interaction that aren't RPGs?
I like worldbuilding and stories, and I like when they're mixed with the interactivity of games, so RPGs seem like they should be a natural fit. Problem is, I dislike the stat-heavy, grindy progression of many RPGs.
I enjoy point & click adventures and visual novels but they're often more limited in their interactions. What kinds of game might I be missing combining the two?
You play the last surviving member of a species that used to rule the galaxy with terrifying advanced technology and weapons. Eventually your species fell and became wiped out by the other species that were being subjugated. Now there is a power vacuum and these other minor powers are battling to becoming the new empire. Your job as a lone alien with an extremely powerful ship (in a small battle, not powerful against an entire civilization of warships) is to try to balance the scales in an evolving conflict between political/military actors and create a peace that learns from the foolishness of your species ultimate mistake.
Very interesting way to make a 2d tactical space combat game and I love how your job isn’t to conquer the universe like Stellaris, your job is to push and nudge in just the right places to stop full on a galactic war.
Yearly reminder to charge all your portables, controllers, and anything with an internal battery at least once a year, or better yet, every 6 months.
This way you lower the risk of the batteries going bad and starting to bloat.
I had this happen with 4 PSP ones a couple of years ago, so I started taking precautions.
Excuse the mess, as this is the only place where I have more than a dozen outlets in the same spot. :blobcatscared:
It's been probably 3 or 4 years since I've charged mine. It's buried in a box in my storage room. But I'm going to dig it out today and give it a charge and hope for the best. 👍
@OutofPrintArchive@occamydg@COMPU73E I totally agree! And if your PSA helped educate me about batteries and specifically the PSP, it could help others as well.
Anyone #RetroGaming anything good at the moment? I'm still on my PSP kick playing MGS Peace Walker which I think is going to keep me busy for a while. Especially as I'm not great at it 😶.
So happy I picked up a PSP again though. Such a fun console. I maaayyy have also bought Silent Hill Origins. I think that's probably all the games that I definitely want for it, but any suggestions of hidden gems that I should look out for?
@Hundstrasse I am currently playing through Final Fantasy V for the first time, by way of the Pixel Remaster on Switch. I think I'm about a third of the way through and have been thoroughly enjoying it.
Rien à voir mais je tombe sur une photo de mon setup à l'automne 2004, regardez moi cette beauté, je venais tout juste de quitter le foyer familial et de me l'acheter.
Ultima Underworld related: while searching for the Sound Blaster, I also found a childhood save disk I made to preserve my "Real Tough Mage with lots of stuff", and a set of Elder Futhark runes I begged my parents to buy for me because I thought they were the ones from Ultima Underworld. (The seller was a marketplace fortune-teller, and she was bemused but delighted to see a tiny child so excited by a set of runes. If only she knew.)
I'm too scared to try the disk to see if it's corrupted... my younger self would have been so upset!
@vga256 These are things that motivate me to slither into dusty, spider-infested crawlspaces above & below & around my parents' house! I genuinely believe many of the things are still there, somewhere, festooned in webs... I glimpsed a rare Wizardry Mordor Charge Card down there once, in the dust, and I tried to dig for it later, but I couldn't find it again. But I do find spiders. Lots and lots of spiders. And animal bones...
Re-reading this message, I'm starting to wonder if it's time to let go ;)
Will start a little series here about me browsing this Club Nintendo issue from July 1995 (Nintendo Power in the US). 📖
I explicitly bought this one recently because I have so fond childhood memories. It must have been one of the few I owned and therefore read endless times. I still remember so much of the content and now I'm excited to refresh these memories.
The cover shows Asterix & Obelix, a PAL exclusive game series. 🐗
The magazine starts with a presentation of Donkey Kong Land. One of the few games in this issue I could actually play by myself because I had a Game Boy and a friend of mine the game. 🐵
I often borrowed it from him and experienced an awesome jump 'n run with cool graphics and a challenging but fun gameplay. It was mindblowing to control the animals shown in this magazine. 🦏
Club Nintendo magazines often came with guides about the presented games. So it is with Mickey Mouse V: Magic Wands! in the issue I have in front of me. 💫
Do you remember using one of these guides to successfully proceed in a game you were stuck before? 🔍
The Duo will have a CD drive, but I don't have any NEC stuff. Is it possible that FPGA cores will let you play PS1/Sega CD/Saturn stuff on it via the real disk?
Also how collectable are the games for the systems the Duo naturally supports? Thanks to ebay and COVID "Entrepreneurs" I know I have high prices ahead of me in any system but...
@SirTapTap The Analogue Duo has no support for openFPGA. So no Ps1/Saturn/etc for that.
For the Pocket: Ps1 never fully supported. There is a proof of concept Ps1 Core but its slow and Sound is missing. The FPGA of the Pocket is too small to handle bigger Systems like the Ps1 for example
There are so many games out there these days that even someone like me, who tries to stay on top of it all, just can't keep up, or even can remember all of them or keep them apart at times. 😅
I just went to look and I didn't have either of them, but they are €35 for both of them on Switch at Amazon Belgium or France right now, so I couldn't pass them up.
@repeatro@TheRetroSven yeah, how did you know? 😅
You'll be surprised to know that I'm not actually that big into fighting games in general. Also wasn't the case when I was a kid. I honestly don't know why I had that many fighting games. 😅
I think King of Fighters' cover might have played a role in me acquiring it. 🤩
That one is also really good for a GB fighter. It's got a gigantic roster (but small sprites) and tons of special moves to remember and pretty decent graphics.
