Michigan used to be a safe bet for Democrats, but Trump’s 2016 campaign did a number on changing the state’s electoral question.

And today, Michigan is somewhere where small shifts can mean a lot. Low turnout with this voter group, extra enthusiasm with that one – small things like this add up in a big way.

@TheConversationUS We are fighting a solid section of the electorate who are proud racists and criminals. Very difficult to overcome these single issue extremists, when other groups have multiple and sometimes competing voting demands.

@Npars01 @emptywheel @KimPerales Yes, this has been evident since the Mueller Report. No follow up. That is why I am concerned nothing is being done to protect America from and its Russian (and other autocrats) backers. Africa has demonstrated that voting doesn’t always result in good outcomes.

This dude goes and invades a sovereign nation without any sort of provocation, then he threatens the world with destruction if that nation strikes back. If he's so worried about escalation, he can pack up the murderers, rapists, and child abusers that make up his military, and go the fuck home. It's his actions that are responsible for the current situation.

@NerdsofaFeather @ergative @bookstodon Yeah, you can tear ass on a bunch of old scifi novels for having insulting or abusive ideas toward social issues & inadequate scientific/logical grounding. Like what were Martians thinking to expose themselves to earth bacteria & viruses (even if those agents could utilize the Martian bodies to their benefit)? The issue becomes challenging however when we try to write a novel now that will be contemporary in 2100. Whose toes will we be stepping on then?

@ProPublica @KimPerales With modern electronics there is just no excuse. Alarms on the doors and people who are in danger when leaving the facility can wear unobtrusive proximity sensors if their Team deems it necessary. One problem that arises is when a memory care unit just demands too much even for enhanced staffing ratios. My experience is that legislatures cut resources until something horrible happens and then they blame the staff and increase resources (or a court monitor forces it).

Extinguishing the fire s complicated because there is a significant amount of flammable materials and the risk of repeated strikes.

Police are studying surveillance cameras to find out how many people were inside.

@shoq We lack the power because money controls politics and capitalism controls money. We will not do enough in time to correct our problem because the ones controlling the purse strings won’t allow it. I honestly don’t know what the threshold is for action but it may be the loss of trillions of dollars or millions of lives over a short time. Capitalism is very reactionary.

The Biden admin must improve its messaging & campaign ads. The pres. should have a young, charismatic orator speak for him at some events & in ads that tout the admin's many achievements, esp. CHIPS, INFRA, IRA, ... & goals for the future.

@KimPerales I don’t know the origin of these “polls”, but I will no longer believe these results until I hear the polling group and its methodology. Even low information Americans know Trump was unable to pass any infrastructure bills. This was a running gag on media for two years. It is as if these people believe OJ Simpson was convicted of murder.
