Now that the UK has announced a Genital Election, I'm really looking forward to all the political content coming our way.

This isn't even sarcasm. I love a UK election.

I am not excusing the racism but its important to listen to people - i had a canvasser - there was much he said that I, and people on the left would 100% agree with - his description of the state of politics, the destruction of UK manufacturing, zero hour contracts, NHS, housing .....everything

What we dont agree on is who is to blame
He did concede that "foreigners" were not responsible for 's industrial policy .....its a start

The UK General Election is during the Scottish school holidays. I just applied online for a postal vote in case we are away:

https://www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote

You need to know your national insurance number and have a photo of your signature on a plain white background.

Like most gov.uk websites, the site is clean and quick and made to get the job done. It took less than 10 minutes.

To imply that being equates to being a or supportive of the government policies is a racial stereotype

Graffitis, trash everywhere, one McDonald's attacked, all bus stops graffitied, at least one trash can burning, these are the leftovers of the most recent demonstration "for peace in " here in .

And not so long ago, when people were still demonstrating for peace in , the city showed it could have thousands of peaceful demonstrators.

Now a small gathering leaves a smell of war zone. I guess not all peace demonstrations are really about peace. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Keir Starmer appears to think this is a get out of jail free card, on accusations of backtracking on previous promises:

'with the damage that’s been done to the economy, particularly by Liz Truss, it is not possible to do that'!

While he may well be right that things have been made so much worse in the last three years that earlier promises have been undermined.... for many, its a series of shifts that have suggested he wasn't serious in the first place.

pragmatic or hypocritical?

A triumph of over-engineering, the Forth Bridge, often called the Forth Rail Bridge since the arrival of the Forth Road Bridge: now one of three great bridges across this part of the Firth of Forth, each built in a different century. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/queensferry/forthrailbridge/index.html

OliverNoble,
@OliverNoble@mastodon.world avatar

@UndisScot "over-engineering" is often very wise in a changing world
What is just-about adequate today is very inadequate tomorrow

There are many little bridges near me over streams and small rivers that are hundreds of years old, built for livestock, pedestrians and horse-drawn carts

Now used by unimaginably heavy trucks, hit with increased flooding, largely ignored and neglected

Over-engineering is a gift to future generations and a humble acceptance that many changes are unknowable
