bolderbekah, Update on the driver who fell asleep at the wheel and killed 17-year-old cyclist Magnus White in #boulder
Artemis201, This is a really interesting article from @boulderreportinglab
It's all about bi-directional car charging ports and how they can benefit the city, the power company, and individuals.

bkeegan, A campaign committed to preserving an empty concrete lot in downtown #Boulder is connected to many of the wealthy condo owners next door. https://boulderweekly.com/opinion/millionaires-for-vacant-concrete-pads/
Artemis201, @bkeegan the picture in the link is a bit deceiving since the area is actually on Walnut, but I agree. The city shouldn't be subsidizing condo prices downtown at the expense of the public good.
Put something more useful than a concrete pad!
andrewbrandt, Getting some pretty amazing #aurora photos with a 4 second exposure at ISO 320 from my backyard in #Boulder thanks to our G5 #solarstorm big reds, oranges, and some greenish-blue streaks right now, at latitude 40°N 105°W - caught a helicopter, too
andrewbrandt, Got some proper aurora "sky wave" effects for a few minutes down at middle latitudes!
ISO320 @ 4 sec
#Boulder #aurora #cowx #spaceweather @ 40°N 105°W
Artemis201, @andrewbrandt I also got some pictures! Just after midnight

PadreWil, @elaterite Picture was fuzzy. Also, NO video .... just a poor picture.
PadreWil, @elaterite Thx for clarification .
bkeegan, Congratulations to @ChelseaCastellano @ericmbudd and the rest of the Bedrooms are for People movement!
After gathering signatures through the pandemic, suing #Boulder City Council for blocking them from the ballot, and narrowly losing a city ballot initiative, the state legislature took action and now occupancy limits preventing unrelated people from living together are now illegal across all of #Colorado.
lisafw,
andrewbrandt, Well, I'm disappointed to report that #Boulder city council voted 7-1 against designation of the historic district proposal that would have highlighted a history of racial prejudice going back a century. The one thing I'm grateful for is that the councilmembers appeared moved by the history that was uncovered during the investigation into the origins of Central Park. The public comment also highlighted the deeply racist practices and effects of reknowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. Onward to the next battle for justice and equity!

bud_t, Lots of power outages planned and eminent for my part of #Boulder county due to this #wind event. Our section of town has not received notification of outage from the provider yet, but most of the town has.
Batteries are charged on everything, backups and in place, and my hybrid truck with its 7.2 kW onboard generator is ready to power critical things (refrigeration, heat, cooking) if needed.
bud_t, @kreynen @lisafw yeah that is the issue with EV's. We have a Nissan Leaf but no way to power the home with it's nice big battery! I wish EV's had vehicle to home (V2H) capability.
My truck is a hybrid F150 Powerboost. I have not wired in an interconnect panel (but plan to someday) but I can still run power cords from the truck to things in the house that need power. The truck powers the circuit off it's hybrid battery and then the engine starts to recharge it when needed. It can provide up to 7.2 kW.
The power is still on at our place near Pine and Tyler
kreynen, @bud_t @lisafw We still have power off Dahlia near Safeway too. We have a camper van with a generator that runs off the van's gas. That's what we'll be using for the refrigerator if we lose power for more than a few hours.
We don't have solar yet, but I'd be really interested in a system that included a V2H option.
Xcel cutting power seems like it is going to be new normal during (now normal) 75+ mph winds.
bolderbekah, Boulder County, Boulder, Louisville among areas that may have power turned off from 3pm today (Saturday) through noon tomorrow for high winds and wildfire risk
bolderbekah, Someone started a crowdsourced map of who got Xcel notifications. (Open google maps in a browser, not the app to be able to add your location)

ryanwithboulder,
ryanwithboulder, The City of #Boulder has a chance to put into city code:
- Holistic #climate policy with firm guardrails
- Integration of transportation & land use into a unified concept of human-centered #accessibility
And more, thanks to excellent work from my colleagues.

andrewbrandt, Amazing @boulderreportinglab reporting. I've been supporting #Boulder recognizing Boulder's first #Black neighborhood in designating a #Historic District downtown.
In my testimony to Landmarks Board (https://youtu.be/ohm8EOPFSts?feature=shared&t=11911) (3:18:30 in), an area now occupied by Boulder's main public library was designated "Block 11" back in the 1870s when the city was just a frontier mining supply town. Blocks 11 and 12 was the only place Black or brown residents could own a home. It was later demolished, its residents displaced and poorly compensated.
This story should be told.
thomasw, > Boulder’s historic district proposal sparks reckoning with the city’s displacement of early Black residents
> What is evident from their research is that about a century ago, the City of Boulder was involved in displacing residents living along Boulder Creek. At the time, it was described as an effort to “clean up and beautify” the area, the Boulder Daily Camera reported in 1921. Now, for the first time, city officials are publicly reframing this moment in the city’s history as an instance of racial injustice.
#Boulder
andrewbrandt, A week from Saturday, if you're a #Boulder voter, please come meet your state assembly representative Junie Joseph.
Junie was a fantastic mentor to me as a candidate and she is one of the most effective legislators in #Colorado, sponsoring 19 bills last year to promote affordable housing, renters' and workers' rights, safety for marginalized groups, and more.
This year she's a cosponsor of a bill to regulate #deepfake #AI video and audio when it's used maliciously during political campaigns.
I'm a co-host of this event, so please drop by if you're in the area!
ryanwithboulder,
ryanwithboulder, Cafe’s back up at the #Boulder library and a cup of coffee costs ONE DOLLAR.

Artemis201,
Artemis201, @r_df_ng Have fun on your visit!
Oh, and if you haven't seen snow before, remember that you'll want boots if you go hiking in it and a shell layer if you're going to spend more than an hour out in it. Otherwise you'll be soaked and freezing by the end. <3 tag me if you have any other questions for your visit!
Artemis201, @r_df_ng
Another running suggestion, there are several running groups that are open to anyone. Showing up to one of their runs could be a fun way to see the city.

andrewbrandt, My Mayor Pro-Tem wrote a scathing op-ed in the local #Boulder paper about the Democratic Party infighting and weird targeting of candidates of color in our district with negativity and resistance to their candidacies in some important races this fall.
Boulder sometimes pretends to be progressive, but a community of this many wealthy white people can be incredibly, institutionally racist in some really insidious ways at times, and this is one of those times.
ryanwithboulder, Most of us didn’t ask the gov to give control of our physical movement to sellers of a monopoly product that would cost so much and take more and more every year.
But here we are.
We could—and #Boulder should—make plans to give residents a better deal.
