This week's Tune Tuesday from @Kitty has a theme of "The Long Goodbye" from @VestigialLung

I don't listen to a ton of music with long closings to their songs. However, my brain went to The Eagles, "Hotel California."

Specifically, the version from their live reunion album Hell Freezes Over.

Check it out here https://songwhip.com/eagles/hotelcalifornia

ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN - OCEAN RAIN

Title track of the band's 1984 album, this sweeping ballad showcases a grand orchestration and Ian McCulloch's emotive vocals. Its poetic lyrics evoke a sense of longing and romanticism, culminating in a dramatic crescendo. Often considered one of their most iconic songs.

I've shared Trash Theory videos before but here's another one for the road. The guy's voice is so comforting to me? I just love that he talks about the lore behind all the music I grew up with and plays snippets of the songs he references. He's genius.

This video is about Blue Monday and its myths.

@cory A listener's relationship should be with the artist, not the platform it listens on. Thus, pay the artist for the money, then listen to the music in the way that suits you as a listener.

cory,
@cory@social.lol avatar

@astiga that's the ideal to me — even closer to where we were with mp3s and players years ago. Enabling artists to have closer relationships to fans is a far better goal than inserting middlemen that squeeze both sides of that relationship.

The one band Axl Rose called "just a political organisation"
Axl Rose may have fronted one of the biggest rock bands of all time, but he didn't mind seeing one of their contemporaries as anything but rock and roll.

@TheMetalDog Wait... WHAT? Why do we care what Axl Grease thinks?!

Gimme a break! We're gonna still be talking about Iron Maiden 30 years from now. Runs in your Hoses? Likely not so much. GnR had ONE decent album. That's it. Other than that? Squadoosh.

Iron Maiden are bloody legends. Tell Axl to eat another donut...

🧵 Punk vs Prog

Another cultural pundit on TV last night dragging out the threadbare 'Punk was a response to Prog Rock' chestnut. When TV documentaries repeat this punk/prog cliche they always cherrypick Prog's most ludicrous moments (that many prog fans don't like either) to support the claim...
At the time, John Lydon, wore a 'I hate Pink Floyd' t-shirt. Punks also wore swastikas but were far from nazis. Lydon says it was a performative gesture...

Richard_Littler,
@Richard_Littler@mastodon.social avatar

“Of course we didn’t hate them,” he said of Pink Floyd, admitting he "loves them", along with Hawkwind, Can, Van Der Graf Generator & others.
Clash members were fans of Genesis and Yes (and even worked for the latter). Damned members liked Soft Machine & King Crimson. Steve Jones was a fan of Fleetwood Mac, Queen & Journey, ffs.

@samvarma And the album description certainly didn't hurt: "Dayton redefines himself once again with The Hard Way Blues, a blues-based rock record produced by Grammy winner Shooter Jennings. Inspired by longtime influences like '70s-era Bob Dylan, Lightnin' Hopkins, and Mance Lipscomb, the album balances some of the sharpest songwriting of Dayton's career with loud guitar riffs and amplified attitude.
