On the ActivityPub-based Fediverse, is coauthoring a post a thing?
I'm open to answers that are not just a yes-or-no. I understand ActivityPub is not as black and white, since you can introduce JSON-LD extensions, but I'd love to hear some perspective on this.
A big part of social media is relatability, and a lot of that is lost on the #Fediverse because almost none of us are using the same shitty broken app to access it.
1/6 🐘#Fediverse denizens, alert! #Zuckerberg plans to replicate the birdsite with "Threads", courting celebs to tempt the masses! Let's keep the chaos of billionaire playgrounds out of our free, fun, and fair networks. Ad-free, algorithm-free #Mastodon over the greed of Meta/Twitter. #NoZuckInFediverse🚫💰🌐
Some time ago I asked you how do you want to search through the #fediverse (or, more recently, the #threadiverse).
Starting today, you can now search it using the brand new dedicated flag (double question mark - "??").
As said in the picture, to search the fediverse off SVMetaSearch, use the following format: "??domain.name query", where "domain.name" is a domain to the supported fediverse instance, and "query" is pretty self-explanatory.
This is the 3rd or 4th example I’ve seen in two weeks of server admins using the nuclear option of #defederation for the behavior of one or two users. One of the examples was a fight between the two admins.
This is going to kill the #Fediverse if we keep doing this. You are breaking the user experience for every person on either server who interacts with someone on the other server. Even if you decide to change your mind, those users experiences are still broken. You don’t regain your followers if they refederate.
Normal users are not going to follow the meta narrative of why two server admins aren’t friends anymore. They’ll think the #fediverse is broken and leave. If this keeps up its going to be impossible to recommend any other server outside of mastodon.social.
It's interesting to see that it's mostly cis men who are reporting and celebrating this. Seeing blokes giving kudos directly to its red-brown devs makes me feel ill. 🤮
I comprehend written nuance about as well as a neanderthal...
..which makes it all the more surprising I constantly see folks in the #fediverse agree with a message, then the OP comes back and starts sternly talking at them like they disagreed.
Whut?! Do some of y'all miss arguing on #socialmedia that much?!
When I discovered RSS, I decided I would move away from liked Facebook pages and on to a dedicated feed reader. I liked that you could see all the articles being posted chronologically, not some being pushed up/down by some unknown algorithm, plus the magazine like interface that some had - with previews of different sizes being...
Perhaps it's just my own completely subjective interpretation, but I'm pretty sure "losers, misfits, privacy zealots and weirdos" are kinda 99% the type of people you would like to follow, not a bunch of devrels and corpo shills pretending to be prophets of the "new world".
