For Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we want to recognize the work being done on accessibility by @matt as part of the @gnome Foundation. He is the lead for @accesskit and is currently working on Newton, a Wayland-oriented solution for assistive technologies that can modernize accessibility on the Linux desktop!
The Fedora Accessibility Working Group is looking to work closer with upstream as we aim to improve accessibility on Fedora. If you are interested in joining, participating, collaborating, or sharing your experience, please reach out with the Fedora DEI tag on our forum.
“Apple today announced new accessibility features coming later this year, including Eye Tracking, a way for users with physical disabilities to control iPad or iPhone with their eyes. Additionally, Music Haptics will offer a new way for users who are deaf or hard of hearing to experience music using the Taptic Engine in iPhone” #a11yhttps://www.apple.com/newsroom/2024/05/apple-announces-new-accessibility-features-including-eye-tracking/
How do you feel about duplicate links in articles, blogs, whatever? Meaning: A certain word is a link (let's say "HEALTH") leading to an external website.
Would it annoy you if this word was always a link and it's mentioned for example 20 times in an article? Or would you rather have it only once to make it easier to scan for links?
Hey #a11y friends - when do you recommend use of a roving tab index? When do you say proceed with caution, and when is definitely not appropriate?
Having some discussions where the sentiment from others is it can be "an accelerator" for getting though a "collection" but I'm not finding evidence for that recommendation vs allowing normal tab behavior outside of tabs or custom radio-type groups.
(Not so secretly hoping this nerd-snipes some of you into a blog post 👀)
Hopefully this will have good results for #accessibility and as a side effect do away with shitty paywall tricks that block access by screen readers and non-javascript browsers.
Something that I myself missed when I opened the original ticket is that alt text really should be on the same level of importance as the content of the post itself.
