Once there was a saying "If it ain't Boeing, I'm not going " Back then, Airbus had been plagued by issues with its fly-by-wire control systems, which (at the time) could override the pilot's inputs and fly a plane into the ground.

Fast foward a few decades and Airbus's systems are pretty reliable, since they've been forced to allow that their algorithms aren't always smarter than the pilots (aviation regulations are written in blood, as another saying goes).

… Now it's Boeing that's in the news every few days because of quality-control issues.

The thing about taking shortcuts, cutting oversight, and squeezing pennies in aviation is that the problems don't always surface right away.

You think you got away with it, but then years or decades later stuff starts falling off b/c of wrong fasteners, shoddy work, poor design, etc. You might never win back that public trust, even if your overall safety record is still good.

Airbus advertising campaign ideas:
"Our planes don't fall apart in the air."
"Our planes have all their parts."
"We don't charge microtransactions for plane components."
"The 'A' in Airbus shows our QA safety rating."
" Airbus, we can afford bolts"
" Airbus, because even the alphabet knows they Boeing is second best"

Airbus, feel free to hire me, i've got loads of these.

For all the disparagement of the #European way of doing #business (especially from international organisations based in the USA), what we can see in the #aerospace sector is that #Airbus are now the dominant manufacturer.... especially now that #Boeing's longer term problems have been compounded by their #737Max difficulties.

[And before you say, ah yes by Airbus get masses of state aid, so does, albeit in different form, Boeing]

Chart: Boeing loses market share to its rival Airbus. Market share of large single-aisle aircraft (% firm order backlog). Shows Boeing with more market share than Airbus until 1998, but then Airbus slowly but surely increase it share above Boeing, to the point where the share is currently 60/40 in favour of Airbus
