This month in 1962 — THE BUGS BUNNY SHOW debuted on Saturday mornings on ABC.
A primetime version (1960-62) preceded it, but the Saturday show became the longest, continuously-running morning children's program in network TV history.
Bugs Bunny: Private Eye, an unreleased Commodore 64 game created in 1992 but canceled due to the closure of its developers Hi-Tec Software, was completed and released in 2012 via Games That Weren't.
I don't know how many of you are into cartoons and such - I'm super into certain ones and have been for most of my life, ever since I used to get up early in the morning to catch them on TV as a kid.
Strangely, one of my only consistent habits for the last 14 years has been writing about them on a blog. Just wrote about the upcoming Daffy/Porky movie that I'm pretty psyched for.
Year of the Rabbits: Bugs Bunny
For my final installment of Year of the Rabbits, had to go with the King- and occasional Queen- of them all. Unmatched in cunning, guile, and serving sickening looks, Bugs is the undisputed GOAT. Hillbilly Hare was always one of my faves.
👾 Today's Throwback Thursday. Retro gamers, here r my Big Birds Hide & Speak and Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout games. These were mine when I was a tot. As a toddler/little kid growing up with #adhd Hide & Speak helped me focus and learn a few things. The controls would trigger me though after a while since you could only move the dang bird right even if you pressed left 😂. Birthday Blowout was like a kid version of Mario. I enjoyed it even tho it got a lot of hate by other gamers today. Its good for kids.
Bob Clampett's "Wabbit Twouble" (1941) is one of my all time favorites. This gag is so funny to me. Elmer's reaction! LOL Painting Elmer's glasses dark has always stuck with me. Such weird funny Bugs drawings, love it! #looneytunes#cartoons#animation#bugsbunny#wbcartoons
A couple of houses down from mine, I have a new-ish #neighbour; moved in last year. There lives a weird kid, in a good way. From talking to him and seeing him doing weird things, it seemed to me he was destined to end up a pretty good engineer in about twenty years.
Today confirmed it. He literally built a Bugs Bunny cartoon trap on the front lawn, to catch ... ?
The final batch of Looney Tunes Cartoons is out! I haven’t seen them yet, but it includes the three remaining shorts that I worked on, which were actually the first ones I got to do. In which I got to express some 2020 feelings, tried my best to draw Bugs (SO HARD, HELP) and lost weeks of work in a crash… but above all, what an honor! #looneytunescartoons#looneytunes#bugsbunny
Bugs Bunny's birthday is today, July 27. He's 83! As the image attached here says, in 1940 he made his debut in his own cartoon, after being a unnamed rabbit in a Porky Pig short in 1938. And then he became the mascot for Warner Brothers!
I'm a huge fan of Bugs, and I still watch a lot of those old Bugs shorts (especially the ones with Yosemite Sam, they're my favorite). I'm also a huge collector of Bugs toys, memorabilia, just everything. I wrote a thing about it on my cartoon blog a few years ago. 'Bugs Bunny, and how I first fell in love with cartoons': https://animatedtvblog.wordpress.com/2020/03/10/bugs-bunny-and-how-i-first-fell-in-love-with-cartoons.
Also, there's a lot of Bugs video compilations on YouTube, but did you know you can watch (and/or download!) 85 Bugs shorts at archive dot org? The link is also in my blog post above, it's SO cool these are online here.
Marvin the Martian arrived on earth this week in 1948. Technically the generation of GenXer's parents, but we relived Marvin's magic every day after school thanks to wide distribution of Looney Tunes cartoons rerun on one of our three or four TV channels! 🙌 #MarvinTheMartian#LooneyTunes#BugsBunny#Nostalgia#GenX
