While the Alliance Defending Freedom states that it works to promote freedom of religion, it is a fundamentalist Christian organization, and employees must profess "adherence to the inspired, infallible, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God in Scripture."
one of their biggest hurdles is getting drivers to understand they are not #Freelance workers with no rights but #employees of corporate giants that “have effectively disguised the employee-employer relationships that they have with their riders”
"workplaces should have to legally provide #unlimited paid sick leave available immediately upon hire. the limits that #companies that even provide paid sick leave put on it is so fucked up. no one can control when they get sick, how often they get sick, or how long they are sick for, and they shouldn't have to suffer for the transgression of being ill.
"oh, but some #people might take advantage of that and just stay home all the time and get paid for it!" if there is really a statistically relevant amount of people you have hired staying home on paid sick leave for months or years on end, perhaps your workplace sucks to be at, and you need to change.
give them reasons to come in to #work. make it safer and easier to do their #jobs. give them work that they can get invested in and talk to them about what that looks like. make sure you aren't overloading them with too much work or making unreasonable demands. #pay them an amount that makes the work worth doing to them. actually form a working relationship with your #employees instead of treating them like infinitely #exploitable#wage#slaves.
only allowing your #workers to accrew "2 hours a week of sick time starting after 6 weeks of #employment" or some shit just doesn't match the reality of how #sickness or #human#health#works"
If Donald #Trump wins a second term, he & his allies want to revive a plan to allow a #president to #fire#CivilService workers who are supposed to be hired on #merit. The Biden administration is trying to thwart it.
The rule addresses a move #Trump tried to make late in his presidency by issuing an EO known in shorthand as #ScheduleF. It would have empowered his admin to strip #JobProtections from #career#federal#employees — who are supposed to be hired based on #merit & cannot be arbitrarily fired. While the EO said agencies should not hire or fire Schedule F employees based on #political affiliation, it effectively would have made these employees more like political appointees who can be #fired#AtWill.
"The current unemployment rate needs to rise by 40 per cent to 50 per cent to boost the Australian economy’s productivity, Tim Gurner has said.
"Gurner told the Summit that the cultural shift towards a more pro-employee climate had led to tradies pulling back on productivity.
“'In my view, we need to see pain in the economy. We need to remind people that they work for the employer, not the other way around,' he said.
“'When there’s been a systematic change where employees feel the employer is extremely lucky to have them as opposed to the other way around it’s a dynamic that has to change. We’ve got to kill that attitude.'
"He said the growing rate of unemployment was promising as layoffs has started to translate to 'less arrogance in the employment market'. He believed, however, that more layoffs were required for it to 'cascade across the cost balance'.

An analysis of federal and state databases sheds new light on the prevalence and scale of wage theft in New York #restaurants and other industries, placing the total wages stolen in one five-year period at more than $203 million.
This is some seriously underrated tea on #Chevron, the oil company acting like Regina George (actually though).
By Eamon Levesque | Jul 31, 2023
From the article:
#Donziger ’s three-decade legal battle with #Chevron is a pain to summarize. Key to understand is that he represented 30,000 #Ecuadorian#indigenous residents of the #Amazon in a lawsuit against oil giant Chevron.
The legal moves #Chevron has made against #Donziger are no laughing matter. On the other hand, their attempts to beat him down in the court of #PublicOpinion are… different.
“They had to create a #FakeNarrative ,” said Donziger. “At that point, they really crossed the line in terms of the things they started do… to lie, to #deceive the #public, to deceive #journalists and their own #employees.”
#IT question of the day. When dealing with terminated #WFH employees, how do you get them to return equipment in a timely manner? We have #employees that will not send #equipment even after disabling the devices and continuously communicating they need to be returned.
I see a few services cropping up that deal with this, but with a starting price of $200 per #laptop it seems a bit high.
"Nicknamed "Project 42," the initiative is believed to involve a purchase of millions of #dollars in special #glass — large enough that it drew attention from #employees last year. Limited liability firms linked to #Musk and executives are also known to have bought large volumes of #land in the #area."
Wendy M. Grossman (@wendyg) has her new weekly column out, as usual, and it's great (also as usual).
This week, she's talking about #surveillance - not big police operations, or anti-spy stuff, but the little stuff that #employers have taken to #spying on and #monitoring their #employees with. It was a growing trend before, but the onset of widespread remote work made it #explode during the #pandemic.
@GossiTheDog - I’ve not liked Micro$oft for years, but… this story of #corporategreed is pretty much the same at many companies right now.
Still just awful.
A ten percent #raise for Nadella is $5.5 million. Imagine how powerful it’d look for him to #donate that to the lowest level #employees at his company.
