As a former director for civic integrity at Twitter, I’ve been disturbed for some time about what Elon Musk is doing with his private global platform.

Today, I took the step of leaving Twitter, completely.

Why?

I definitely wanted to know what the and former employees really wanted to share from their recent experiences.

The Federal Trade Commission has voted 3-2 along party lines to ban new noncompete agreements and make most existing agreements non-enforceable for everyone other than senior executives. FTC Chair Lina Khan says lifting the ban will allow workers the “freedom to change jobs,” which “is core to economic liberty.” The decision is expected to be challenged by the Chamber of Commerce, which argues noncompete agreements protect trade secrets. Read more from CBS News about the decision.

What these would-be Mozarts need is basic income.

Right now is a bit like the promising intern who gets promoted far too quickly, basically because he's cheaper than other higher up the pecking order. He or she hasn't proven his or her worth, churns out questionable and uncritical content but for the most part is free to use.

One day, of course, it won't be free. Somebody will want to make money out of what they have developed, and money and power will be concentrated in even fewer hands. Yet because we are lazy and competitive at the same time, we all use it to try to do more in less time with no concern over feeding the beast that will one day devour us.
