I've released a new update for my Share to Mastodon browser extension! It has new settings and welcome pages, and has some other small changes. Just waiting on approval from browsers.
Have the need to be federated but the relays fill your server with a bunch of crap that's irrelevant to your interests? Fine tune your own #relays with https://relay.fedi.buzz
Worldwide the iPhone has 20% market share, so among the users here, the share is higher. Makes sense as the iPhone has more like 50% market share in the US, Japan and large parts of Europe and a lot of our and Mastodon users are based there.
An interesting read about centralized social networks preying upon decentralized networks. Written by @ploum with a featured image by @davidrevoy.
Many Mastodon admins have been contacted by Meta representatives. They have all asked for off-the-record discussions. That’s telling, of course. Fortunately most (including our own mas.to admin, @trumpet) refused their invites.
An open adjustable #ring with #amazonite made with #SterlingSilver. A unique design with angled band, perfect #gift for a beloved person or yourself! I can make it and with red carnelian if you wish!
Find it on my #etsy shop! see my bio or the pinned toot!
Nautilus Seashell, watercolor. Symbol of nature's grace in growth, expansion, and renewal. The nautilus grows in direct proportion to its needs and with geometric precision. The measurement of the nautilus spiral conforms to the shape of the Golden Ratio spiral, or what is known as a "sacred geometry."
I was just thinking. If #threads really does federate with #mastodon instances, then that means those instances will have to process up to 50x (??) more federated traffic than they do know. Most of these instances are labor of love and run on tight specs and budgets. Will it even be possible? #fediverse
Frustrating limitation of #mastodon / #Fediverse : I hate how ultra-precise hashtags have to be, down to the letter, for them to show up in searches...aka #feminism not #feminist , #lgbtqia not #lgbtq , etc etc etc, requiring either a whole bunch of tag-spam, or tons of research ahead of time to see what the most popular tags are (which itself is fraught, since you're dependent on tags either being posted TO your same instance, or boosted by someone else who is in your same instance...)
I assume there's supposed to be some pro-privacy reason behind this, but I'm not sure at the logic behind a lot of tags, like I feel like #lgbtq and #lgbtqia should show the same posts?
I would like to compartmentalize my mastodon accounts: photography and graphic arts, Pacific Northwest, politics, programming and software. Having all of that content in one place may be inconsistent with my mood for the day. #random#mastodon
know how social media like Reddit and Tumblr are made fun of for their groupthink? Mastodon and the Fediverse has its own groupthink.
the video mentions Mastodon in passing but says the name sounds like a joke. and yeah, Threads is a much better name. kind of wish Mastodon wasn't named Mastodon. never liked the name. FOSS software in general tends to have ugly names.
This article reminded me that Meta launched Threads not to scoop up disgruntled Twitter users, but to scoop up disgruntled Twitter advertisers. Because of course that's all they care about. Duh.
