In the meantime, I’ve bought some #SNES style USB pads and a case for the #RaspberryPi 4 #RetroPie. No expectations, because they were cheap AF…🤡 It just didn’t feel right playing those classics on a modern #XBox pad and I have just one…🤷🏻♂️ I want to share the sentiment with my wife and the kids…🥰
I've been fighting my new #RaspberryPi5 home server, replacing older model. This is exactly why I low key hate open source software and linux-based systems. Sure, it's stable once configured. But if you do it once every few months it's fuckin' different every time and the things you had to do to make it work then, might or might not work now... For someone that doesn't do Linux very often it's a shitshow...😞 There, I've said it!😆
Finally I managed to get my 8BitDo SNES controllers to work with my #RetroPie. That was weirdly hard, because on #RPi 3 this just worked. But now I am using my granny RPi 1 with a bluetooth dongle and shit hit the fan.
Anyhow, I could finally play some old Smurfs game with my kid. He just jumped around with a Smurf all the time, so we didn't get far. But that totally rocked.
And here it is, my 16 year old iMac 20" inside one of the closet compartments in my home office. You have to play while standing, just like in the arcades of yore. 🤗
This setup works really well for the games I want to play on it — arcade and home console stuff up to the late 1990's. It barely goes above 30% of one CPU core on anything. The CRT shaders I selected work plenty smooth. 🪶🧈
The screen is very good even by today's standards. 🖥
#RaspberryPi5 deflating three 7z files and compiling #RetroPie modules still usable, no stutters, really impressed. Will have to try a couple of my old Xbox games on this if it works. However, I underestimated the size of the USB stick I'd need…
#Help#RetroPie#CRT#HantarexPolo20 hi trying to make that work using Pi3, a HDMItoVga converter, a J-Pac II interface and and Hantarex Polo 20. So far the closes I can get "I can see something" but vertically scrolling away is with :
@Schdadia
If I had a 3D printer I would 100% build a GBA-style emulation machine with a Raspberry Pi CM4 base. But, I would have 4 face buttons, two joycon-sized sticks (the GuliKit Hall Effect ones), and extra shoulder buttons. It would definitely be an interesting project. #emulation#retropie#gameboy#3dprint
I finished a play through of #Castlevania SotN on #RetroPie tonight. Now time to decide if I play through again and get some of the #RetroAchievements I missed or move on to Super #Metroid.
What if #Fedora had a #Retro SIG that shipped with stuff like emulators, serial tools, and various language compilers like FreeBASIC, OpenCOBOL, etc, and we could ship it with 8-bit pixel art wallpapers of the current release art?
Until now I bought Mini-Consoles/-Systems or Collections on modern consoles and #steam
But this is not satisfying any longer plus: it costs ya!
I would love to have ONE device that can play #games starting from #Atari VCS via 8Bit- & 16Bit up to #mame#arcade games & maybe some home computer stuff.
Is this possible? What would I need (except a Pi, doh).
@vwbusguy@AndyGER came here to say the same. It's great! I've only struggled to get Apple IIe ROMs working, but all other platforms in #Retropie work very nicely, from my experience.
A bit late to this particular party but just found this interesting PC fan remake of Zelda II which also adds some modern features like full on widescreen support. Plays really well too. Also playable on #SteamDeck and #rogally
I'll probably post more of these playable fangames as I find them.
@GuiDaFunkyMan It's a game made in GameMaker, so it is not a ROM at all. I believe the Pi has a way of playing some GameMaker games but I can't say I've tried as the #retropie community ran me off a long, long time ago.
