I am gonna watch a #studioGhibli movie (as yet undecided) if anybody wants to join in for a very lazy #watchParty. I won't have the cog to toot, but will follow along and ⭐boop your toots.
Or we can even be tootless, and just know someone out there is also watching the same movie.
This morning, I've been remembering this #StudioGhibli-esque "trailer" the Oregon tourism commission made to encourage visitors to the state. It's very Oregon (or at least how Oregon sees itself).
I live not too far from the 50 second mark lol (heading there--Crater Lake--for a visit tomorrow).
Anyway: #Oregon is the fifth state I've lived in, but I've grown very attached to it, & figured I'd share. 🤓
An entire afternoon most excellently spent with family yesterday at #GhibliPark in Mitaka #Tokyo
It's mostly just a large building with 3 floors. A whimsical and beautiful space - no pics allowed inside just in the outside portions. Leaven/MrDough & the Egg Princess was the #StudioGhibli short in the theatre. Seeing the drawings and paintings of scenes was quite amazing. Highly recommend (book in advance - get tickets via Lawson) #DasInTokyo #Japan#Travel
Live stage performance of Miyazaki’s “Spirited Away,” what?! Never wanted to see a play, but this may be my first if they come to The States. UK folks, they’re coming your way!
:shiba_hello: Hiii, it's time to actually start to post my own art again. In lieu of recordings from my most recent performance (I'm working on processing them), here's the piece I'm most well-known for. :zerotwo_cheeky: The original video broke 20k views recently, buuut that's not really me anymore, so here's the updated one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IRb707R01w
Do you all have any fond memories of this piece, or perhaps Howl's Moving Castle in general? :eevee_joy:
p.s. I'm curious what my current reach is in terms of instances. If you're not on cutie.city (which is most of you), can you please drop me a quick reply to help me figure out where you saw this? :blobhaj_plead:
hi! im new to this place and i'm looking for people in my age group. i know in general there's not many of us on here. i actually joined to scope out the app and figure out how to introduce new gen z users. but who is here already?
Oh man. I was planning to watch the subbed version of the new #Ghibli flick when it came out, but the English dub cast is stacked. Def going for the dub now. 👀
I was diagnosed as #autistic at the age of 4. I have difficulties with social interactions and anxiety, however I’m very proud of this part of my identity, and how it forms my world view.
This morning at 7:50 a.m., about 43 (ish) people showed up to a theatre in Seattle for a private, Covid cautious screening of Hayao Miyazaki's latest film, The Boy and the Heron.
People took a rapid test and reported results to the organizers before arriving and wore high-quality masks at all times. Folks stayed home if they or anyone in their household felt unwell. Masks and tests were available on site if needed.
Cost was about $13 per ticket after donations from #CovidCautious community members who wanted to help make the event accessible to folks.
CO2 was monitored and never got over 900.
The film was incredible. Knowing there are folks in my community who are willing to wake up early af because they haven't been to the theater in years due to #COVID19 was just as incredible.
Covid safe events aren't just possible, they're desired. Imagine how many people would have attended if it could have been on a Saturday afternoon or evening?
it took me four months to read through this collection of essays, stories, interviews and written thoughts from hayao miyazaki, and it was absolutely worth reading it slowly.
about half of the book are conversations about how-it-was-made or reflections on characters like Nausicaä. they're interesting for anime-manga aficionados, artists and animators.
but what stood out to me most reading Starting Point was miyazaki's ability to think. he thinks non-reductively, without ever turning to either lazy idealism or pragmatism. there are moments where it is clear he has read social theory, but the ideas are always expressed as everyday, grounded experiences - and not floaty/cloudy/tangled academic musings.
he just thinks, out loud, a lot. this is someone whose entire day is consumed by thinking, and animation just happens to be one of the creative practices involved in expressing the thoughts for other people.
this is not something depicted in any documentary i've seen about studio ghibli - which tend to focus on his personality, emotions and production process.
Tonight I've pulled out something VERY special! This particular set of LaserDiscs contain the ORIGINAL English dubs for certain Studio Ghibli films that were only ever shown on Japanese airlines!
I'm sure with a 100% confidence that the scene in #TheBoyAndTheHeron where the large space-ship shaped rock floating in the sky over the hill is introduced is a reference to something similar, but I can't put my finger on what it's a reference to (to wit, the sunken ship with the trees where young Kiriko lives is obviously a reference to Böcklin's #DieToteninsel —the #IslandOfTheDead). Anybody can help me with the floating rock in the sky reference?
“The Boy and the Heron,” the latest work from beloved Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki, has become his first film to top the North American box office....
Aún sigo acostumbrándome a Mastodon.
Anyone been to Ghibli Park yet? Was wondering how the experience would be as an adult fan when a lot of stuff there is kid focused. Probably going to do the adult thing and BUY ALL THE MERCH :leafeonmoney: .
Planning to burn miles that I accumulated during covid for next year after the Valley of Witches opens. :abunhdowohop:
