The ’s passage in the is not in doubt — it has the support of President (cuz it’s better than nothing), Senate Majority Leader Chuck & Minority Leader Mitch . But a single senator can throw up procedural roadblocks & push the govt past the deadline….

Juicing demand through a mortgage credit while doing nothing to ameliorate the affordable housing supply crunch is dangerous.

"Policymakers must recognize that solutions must extend beyond temporary financial aids. The affordable housing crisis didn’t begin when mortgage rates skyrocketed, and it won’t end when they fall. Initiatives must be assessed on both their short-term benefits and long-term impact on housing accessibility and market stability.”

Hey #library and #librarian friends: I'm working on a piece talking about the IRS Direct File program (free #tax prep) and I want to make sure I'm not getting out over my skis.

My sense is that librarians are going to be fielding a lot of questions from the public as they attempt to make use of library computers to handle their tax prep.

Some kind of outreach/training/DF literacy program (and additional funding, obv) could help offset some of that added workload.

Thoughts? What am I missing?

Report : More for Them, Less for US: Corporations That Pay Their Executives More Than Uncle Sam
https://americansfortaxfairness.org/less-us-corporations-pay-executives-uncle-sam/
35 major U.S. corporations — including famous names like Ford, Netflix and Tesla — paid less in federal income taxes between 2018 and 2022 than they paid their top five executives. All 35 were cumulatively profitable over that five-year span.

This week (and every other week) you can find me banging the global minimum drum. Shocker: TCJA is trash.

“The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 was billed as a transformative reform to the tax code, but promises of spurred investment, job creation, and economic growth have largely failed to materialize.

What has materialized in the years after this landmark change to the tax code is widespread and institutionalized corporate tax avoidance.”

Essentially, it'll be like Gmail -- perpetually in beta such that the providers can never be held accountable for bad information.

Even near statistical certainty in accuracy would, with enough users, give rise to liabilities that a startup simply aren't built to weather. AI insurance maybe?
