Once again, the issue is portrayed as a bunch of extremists who took over Israel. This is not untrue, but it hides the fact that before these extremists were anywhere near power, Israel was already systematically dispossessing, colonizing, and brutalizing Palestinians.
Every Israeli I know hates Netanyahu, Israel's messianic far right, settlements, and settlers. And I mean HATES them.
But Israeli society is still overwhelmingly supportive of the war.
Israel does nothing to prevent its terror attacks carried out by its soldiers and illegal settlers day and night against civilians in #westbank
But it freely drops bombs on Palestinians by calling them all “terrorists” even children—a practice adopted by the Biden administration as well. I hope that #icj does the right thing.
Is the best analogy for what Israel is doing “white South Africans during the apartheid regime going into the area where the black South Africans live and slaughtering them all”? At least, the government of South Africa seems to think that way.
It’s bewildering how anyone can call this total apocalyptic destruction self defense. #gaza
Where are Palestinians supposed to go? Ethnic cleansing is taking place in #westbank too.
Is the US ready to accept all Palestinians as refugees?
"This is what it looks like when a community of shepherds is suffocating. The sheep are locked up in their pens and all the grazing land in the vicinity is blocked by violent settlers who have seized control of the area, and all that, combined with the high price of food, deprives the shepherds of the possibility of existence. The children are terrified"
Gideon Levy in Haaretz
It’s unbelievable that the police officers did nothing to stop pro-Israel counter-protesters’ violence. They are like Israeli soldiers in #westbank who watch illegal settlers brutalize Palestinians.
The mother of one of the most violent counter-protesters was so proud of her son and posted his photos in action on her social media account.
"The sanctions, which are the first to specifically target extremist Israeli settlers, impose a prohibition on dealings related to the listed individuals and render them inadmissible to Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. The four individuals named in the sanctions are David Chai Chasdai, Yinon Levi, Zvi Bar Yosef and Moshe Sharvit."
A Palestinian man from Hebron: "Sometimes we use donkeys to transfer sick people to the hospital or to the clinic. There hasn't been transportation in this area for a long time. Even if there is a car to drop us off at any clinic, the Israeli army confiscates the cars.”
An account of how dire life has become in the West Bank. Pure systemic occupier evil.
I wonder how many of these violent illegal settlers are American citizens. Have they moved there because they love violence? Is it their Wild West fantasy? They really contrast sharply with our antiwar student protesters. One side resorts to unspeakable violence with impunity and the other side protests peacefully & gets arrested. It’s a very disorienting world. #westbank
Is the New York Times trying to be more balanced in its coverage of Israel-Palestine issues? If so, that’s a welcome shift. A very good article that states facts about settler violence and impunity in #westbank@palestine@israel
"Such beauty! This is what happens to whoever brings food to Hamas" Judeonazi settlers in West Bank blocked two Palestinian trucks, claiming they carry Gaza aid, threw rocks at the drivers, wounding one of them, and destroyed goods. No arrests were made. State-backed terrorists. https://x.com/ireallyhateyou/status/1790807200933318876
After 75 years of failure, one would imagine that a people would learn what works and what doesn’t, both from their own experience, as well as the experience of others.
In the 2000 #CampDavid peace negotiations… #Arafat’s refusal to accept a #Palestinian state on all of the #Gaza Strip and nearly all of the #WestBank was indeed tragic and misguided
What is striking about #Arafat’s refusal to accept the deal offered at #CampDavid—a state on all of #Gaza and 90+% of #WestBank, including a capital in #EastJerusalem—and his subsequent turn to #violent confrontation is just how popular it was and remains🔥
There was not anywhere within #Palestinian politics a minority camp that opposed this move, that warned against the possible consequences, that organized #protests and galvanized #opposition parties
#Palestinians had, for the first time, an elected government, a representative assembly, passports, stamps, an international airport, an armed police force, and other trappings of what was in every sense a state in the making 👀
