It was a beautiful frigid morning at Bosque Del Apache, New Mexico. We arrive by 6 AM in total darkenss to wait for the Snow Geese to fly in. They come by the 1000s. The air is filled with the sound of their joyful honking and beating wings. The sunrises to slowly warm them as they land on the Flight Deck.
The roseate spoonbill, the only truly pink bird, captivates from a distance with its stunning rosy plumage in wetlands. However, its up-close beauty reveals a unique and somewhat bizarre charm, particularly through its distinctive spoon-shaped bill, adding an extra layer of fascination to this fascinating creature.
The Swift parrots fly in from Tasmania, to feed on flowering eucalyptus trees in the Grey Box Forests of Victoria. They are critically endangered (i.e. the step before becoming extinct), with only 300 estimated to be left!
Habitat loss is the driving factor in their decline and every bit of habitat counts towards their survival. Swift parrots have been recorded in the 136.57 hectares of Grey Box Woodland at the airport and Melbourne Airport has identified this species as one that will be impacted by the 3rd runway. This woodland, protected under the EPBC Act, will be completely removed for the third runway.
:blobcat_uwucry: :blobcat_angery: Pete has just gotten into my coffee bean container! Apparently it's toxic for parrots. I hope he will be ok :ablobwhatisgoingon: 🦜 #parrot#conure#birb
In Beacon Hill Park, which is in Victoria, British Columbia, they have peacocks roaming around free. It's an amazing sight! This is my tribute to these amazing birds...
With wings spread wide and eyes set free,
The bird soars high, above the trees.
Its heart sings out a joyful tune,
As it glides through the endless blue.
No worries weigh it down, no cares or fears,
Just the wind beneath its wings, and endless cheers.
The world below, a blur of green and brown,
As the bird flies on, with a peaceful crown.
Oh to be like that bird, so free and bold,
A life of endless possibilities, yet to unfold.
But even in our grounded state, we can still dream,
Of soaring high like that bird, and living life with a gleam.
