My teapot broke! I recently rediscovered my love for loose leaf tea, but broke the spout of my glass teapot last week. A mere tap of the tip of the spout and it broke apart in my hands.
So, I am need of a 1 liter teapot with a strainer. As it will sit on my desk with me most of the day, I would love to have something with a bit of artistry and craftsmanship.
(another) True story! Superb Bowl Sunday is followed by Mugshot Monday, right? ANYWAY last week I woke up from the best dream, in which my mind said to my sleeping self: "what that black terrier needs on mugs is PUPPIES following it around". And I awoke and wrote that down and then made it, and here it is-the dream made real! #art#mastoart#dogs#pottery#clay#ceramics
True story! Last fall I developed a black terrier-with-celadon glaze scheme and immediately desired a small teapot for my breakfast 2 1/2 mugs of tea. So, I made one, and it has now made hundreds of cups for me. I liked it so much I made a second and sold it to a friend who has two terriers! The other day I dropped my teapot's lid on my foot...it bounced off unharmed. I was so pleased that I made this, the 3rd terrier teapot-just out of my kiln. #art#mastoart#clay#ceramics#pottery#dogs
Special order that I made just out of my kiln, for the Celtic triple spiral, which I havn’t made in a while and which I need to make many more of! #art#mastoart#pottery#clay#ceramics
I'm taking a pottery hand-building class now and this is my first hand-built vessel. I wanted a flower vase that could be used as a low centerpiece. Although there is much to be improved, overall I like how it turned out! Also, why is this called a "frog lid"?
The #pottery journey continues. Progress has been made. I've largely sorted out centering clay, which was a struggle for a while. Now I need to sort out actually decorating/glazing stuff. First picture is part of what I threw earlier this week (larger pieces are for mugs, smaller are prototype espresso cups while I figure out what I want to do there). Second pic is a whole lot of blank canvas bisqueware that I need to actually decorate/glaze. Still completely obsessed.
It's day two of the snow/blizzard here in Nova Scotia. I think we have gotten more snow in the past two days than all the other days combined this winter.
In keeping with the weather, I am sharing this white raku pottery vase.
I told a friend of mine that I'd send her a Mystery Pot by Mail and that she could have a quirky mug, a flower pot, or a profane jar. She wrote back PROFANE JAR. I will drop this in the mail for her on Monday. 😂
Much like mountains, the appearance of raku pottery changes.
According to the angle of view, the light, the time of day, the viewer's frame of mind, or where the piece is placed, can effectively change the appearance of a raku vase.
And like a mountain, in the right lighting, a raku vase can glow.
Just submitted all of my highly organized tax information to my CPA. She loves that I get her the info so early in the tax season. And it's so satisfying to get that off my platter.
2 Tried my hand at hand-building two darted mugs. They are very odd up close, but I kind of like them. I'll need to practice this technique some more. (photo attached)
Had a nice walk with the dog this afternoon. First sunny day in weeks.
"Some of our household waste can neither be recycled nor can energy be extracted from it. Examples of this type of material are porcelain, ceramics and mirror glass. If you have a broken coffee cup or a small flower pot, these can be thrown in the normal garbage bag. But you should leave larger quantities and bulky items at a recycling center in the container for 'non-combustible'."
Many of the questions that #archaeology has developed strong answers to relate to #pottery. It's super common, it has lots of informative technical traits and design characteristics, and it preserves really well.
But until just a moment ago, I didn't know what the correct way to deal with broken pottery is in my own society. Gothenburg municipality explains:

Yesterday was #KilnChristmas, so I'll show you guys some pots later. (Have to wait until the light gets brighter in our condo for the best photos.) #Pottery#Ceramics
I love this mug, although the glaze did run a bit near the handle. The glaze almost looks like it has gold leaf it it! I'm taking this one to work. #Pottery#Ceramics#ClayArt
