Re-reading Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is quite enjoyable. There is so much in the book that is skipped in the movies.

Lots of life lessons, the most obvious of which is “Oh, no! Look! It’s the consequences of my own actions and choices!”

But, there are lots of other great insights.

Great little book. #bookstodon #reading

Just finished reading my first spy novel in ages. Felt like one and oh my goodness it was great! Gave it 4,5 stars as the story is a bit slow in certain parts ( that's in part a pro too in others )

The book is called A Spy Alone by Charles Beaumont and I highly recommend it.

Knock, Murderer, Knock! by Harriet Rutland, a little-known crime writer of the late 30s/early 40s, who wrote three well-received novels before divorcing her husband and moving to Devon, whereupon she wrote no more. Knock, Murderer, Knock! is reminiscent of Agatha Christie, if AC had been on the sweet sherry for 48 hours before sitting down to type. Having a good time with it, needless to say.

It's kind of hard to listen to a podcast and read a book at the same time lol 😆😂

"Even as industry sales were slow in 2023, membership in the American Booksellers Assn. continued its years-long revival. It now stands at 2,433, more than 200 over the previous year and nearly double since 2016. About 190 additional stores are in the process of opening over the next two years, according to the ABA."

I’m nearing the end of a book & it’s one of those instances where I’m simply not ready to say goodbye to the complex set of characters I’ve come to know.

Oh well. I suppose that’s a sign of great storytelling. 📚

Only a few pages in, this is already one of my favorite books of the year. Brilliantly written, an easy read yet so full of crucial perspective.

I find this so unsettling, yet condensed and things like CliffsNotes have been around for years. I think this enables people with ADHD and those with the attention span of fleas, yet, maybe it can be useful for some. At least this isn't all AI.

Just finished 'Cruel Provocations' by @golgaloth and I wish it wasn't over - so much so that I stopped myself reading the last few chapters last night, just to draw the enjoyment out a little longer.

An intriguing tale that combines an ostensibly fantasy setting with proto-electric technology (lightning-punk?) its twists and turns take you to unexpected places, and does "the fey" with a unique approach that I loved.

A very impressive debut novel that cries out for a sequel!
