TL;DR: frittata needed!

My niece is getting married next weekend and I have just learned I have been assigned the tast of making frittatas for pre-wedding . I'm a capable home cook, but my partner generally handles all breakfasty-things, so I'm not exactly in my comfort zone here.

Please send me your best frittata and tips, esp. re for a crowd! Assume I'm an idiot.

Thank you!!!

Hey , looking to cook more at home in the new year. Hit me with your best, easy to make and fast recipes. Needs to appeal to a picky 12-year old and ideally to an even pickier 5-year old. Can’t use seafood, as my wife hates it.

Holiday baking with the family! 🍪🍞🍌

I have been wanting to explore this skill and these are my first attempts with my mom's recipes and guidance!

I'm happy with them!! Had a great time. Anyone have any good baking recipes to share that are good for a beginner?

Love this online recipe hack!
...

If you add “cooked.wiki/“ to beginning of ANY recipe url (before the https:/) it strips away everything but the recipe and organizes the ingredients and method into separate columns.

Also adds a dictation option too!

The same baked oatmeal recipe but run through cooked.wiki. It is now cleaned up and organized like a cookbook with ingredients in a column to the left and the method in a column to the right. Everything else is stripped away.

Just made a sort of combo stir-fry/stew that will serve for multiple meals. This is another of those recipes that I improvise from what I have on hand.

As a , there were very few times my grandparents would voluntarily talk about ... except for the rationing part.

So here is a from that time, which I'm having right now :)

Ingredients:

Coffee

Sugar
Butter
Milk* (optional)

  • Cut or pull the bread into bite-sized pieces & add to a tin mug (or a ceramic one).
  • Sprinkle sugar onto the bread
  • Pour hot coffee & milk* over the bread

Voilá.

It's not a pretty dish, but cozy!

Just made the first batch of pesto for the year! But wow pine nuts are pricey. Has anyone tried substituting a dollop of miso? The flavor profile seems similar, maybe moreso than other nuts often suggested as substitutes.

Bowl of pasta with pesto, grape tomatoes... Photo from last year because we wolfed down the current batch too fast for a pic!

I had to ask him, "Jats don't have much of a , am I right? This , this dish, that dish?" And he was like, "I don't think so".

Roti with ghee, Daal, Chutney paste of green chillies and onion, and fried pumpkins or Kaddu ki sabzi. Pretty simple, if you ask me.

Soy Tempeh finished

The first tempeh I made, about 6 years ago, was soy. I do have an attachment for my mixer to crack the beans.

Total fermenting time was about 36‐40 hours.

Talk about being forgiving! I let it get too hot the first night (46° C) but it recovered and produced beautiful blocks.

My method for making other tempehs is in this thread

Tempeh made from du Puy lentils

I really like this one. The texture is lovely and chewy, with a slightly nutty flavour. I like it just air fried, no flavouring needed.

Total fermenting time was about 36‐40 hours.
I doubled the quantity of lentils but kept the amount of lactic acid and tempeh starter the same.

I would love a manager with integration. Like imagine how cool it would be to post your recipes, follow others, comment on each other’s recipes, and even fork/modify recipes and see that relationship from the original recipe. You could have instances focused on cuisine, dietary restriction, cooking method, zero waste, or even your own if you’re a blog… does this exist already? I really want it to exist.

Weekend spontaneous baking moment!!

Decided that I wanted to bake some simple cookies this weekend so I made some Peanut Butter Cookies!

They're delicious! Kept them in the oven for a minute extra cuz they looked a little underdone.

While I was taking them out of the oven, my cat tried to sneak a piece of my banana bread!!

Edit: in replies!

A new excellent take on breakfast - orange overnight couscous, courtesy of Beryl Shereshewsky and one of my best friends, who recommended it to me:

The yoghurt gives it a nice creamy tangy counterbalance but it would also work without. (Also: this is very much not a German recipe. But it's a fun, easy yummy one.)

Sourdough rye bread

It might not be pretty (it isn't), but it's pretty delicious!

The other day, I bought a loaf of 100% rye bread and paid $13 for it. So I'm back to baking my own:

Dough: 100% whole wheat spelt 26%; 100% rye 74%

Vegan Cheese Making First Steps - Rejuvelac

I can't get hold of any sauerkraut juice near me, so I'm back to my usual method of making rejuvelac to be the ferment for my cheeses.

It's a really easy process, I use rye grains for the best flavour. I follow a recipe I got from Miyoko Schinner's Vegan Pantry, years ago. But this is pretty much the same recipe

Afternoon Twters! I keep forgetting I've dyed my hair, it's been red for so long, that every time I wash my hands or something, I surprise myself with it! I love it so much. ❤️

I might make an exciting miso honey chicken thing tonight for dinner, because the recipe looks amazing, but I've never done it before so it's a risk!

Hope you're all looking forward to a lovely weekend, whatever you're up to. 😘
