Juwi Renewable Energies, a Germany-based developer of solar, wind and hybrid projects, is building a new renewable energy farm with a capacity of more than 1.5 GW of wind, 2 GW of solar and 500 MW of hybrid projects for the South African power grid. The project will begin supplying clean power to the South African grid in the first quarter of 2024. https://www.itweb.co.za/content/WnxpEv4YOy27V8XL
I know you can't charge a phone just from a tiny solar panel, but as an extension? Over the course of an entire day, surely it would add a few percent.
US #DepartmentOfEnergy (#DOE) just invested $82 million in 19 innovative projects in 12 states to boost US #solar manufacturing and #recycling. The investment will help promote cheaper, more efficient #solarpanels and advance cadmium telluride and perovskite solar manufacturing. $30M is being awarded to projects that address emerging challenges for grid planning operators & engineers to plan the future of the #electric#powergrid and maintain its daily reliable operation https://electrek.co/2023/04/20/us-solar-recycling-manufacturing/
"Studies from all over the world have shown #crop#yields increase when the crops are partially shaded with #solar panels. These yield increases are possible because of the #microclimate created underneath the solar panels that conserves #water and protects plants from excess sun, wind, hail and soil erosion. This makes more food per acre, and could help bring down food prices."
#California is now producing more #solar#energy at this time of year than it consumes in total between 12pm and 3pm. (the big issue for utilities is the steep curve at the end of the day when solar goes offline, and they have to ramp up other production sources... since very small amounts of that solar energy is able to be stored).
Last week Customs updated its Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) enforcement dashboard. A few notable observations:
Customs is obfuscating what they are detaining. The category "electronics" includes #solar & a convo I had with an enforcement official revealed that detentions of non-solar electronic items were "not statistically significant."
Enforcement is overwhelmingly directed at "electronics" (solar) at 87% (by value) of detentions. /1 (thread)
It's a win win win win solution - #StackingFunctions in #Permaculture. #LandUse is already designated so no imminent domain or environmental impact. Massive clean power generation potential. The solar panels prevent evaporation of our precious #water. And the water keeps the solar panels cooler and thus more efficient.
