Yes this is an #april#fool post, as this is technically not an animal, but still a notable piece of history.
In 1663, a partial fossil of a #Wooly#rhinoceros was found. Otto von Guericke, a Prussian naturalist, not knowing about extinction or anything like that, concluded the fossils belonged to the mythical Unicorn, and recreated them as shown below.
This display can still be found in the Museum of Natural History Magdeburg.

For #handwashing at table. Poured through a flap at the top, the water was later dispensed through the spigot in the unicorn’s chest.
This Toby. I picked him out as an early birthday gift from five below. I love his goofy face and sparkly hooves. I look over at his big smile and it makes me instantly smile back at him. #selfcare#plushies#unicorn#smile
Darf ich vorstellen? Mein neuer Mitarbeiter Raini.
The unicorn is Scotland's national animal. This spring, the brand-new Perth Museum will honor the mythical creature with an exhibition featuring objects like a 19th-century ceremonial rod topped with a silver unicorn and an Elizabethan object made from narwhal tusk. Here's more from Artnet about what to expect.
"Why do the leaves never fall here? Or the snow? Why is it always spring here? I tell you there is one last unicorn left in the world, and as long as it lives in this forest, we'll find no game to hunt here."
-Peter S. Beagle, "The Last Unicorn" #FolkloreSunday
"Yes, the old woman caught her by chance, the same way she took you. Oh, she should never have meddled with a real harpy! Or a real unicorn.... Because the truth melts her magic, always."
"I am sorry. I have done you evil, and I cannot undo it."
"No. Unicorns are in the world again. No sorrow will live in me with that joy - save one. And I thank you for that part, too. Farewell, good magician."
The only appearance of a unicorn in a medieval Welsh legend is a surprisingly savage creature that kills any human it finds and drinks lakes dry, killing all the fish. Peredur (the Welsh Sir Percival) kills it, but then discovers it's the pet of a fairy lady. #FairyTaleTuesday
