Hope’s documents, from her citizenship certificate to her original , listed her country of birth as South Africa. However, when the family went to renew her passport, the records of the Immigration, Refugees & system didn’t match.

“Someone at IRCC recorded on her internal record that she was born in Swaziland, not South Africa... It was an error in their system.”

@msquebanh , I'm lucky enough that I was born abled, and have avoided most accidents that limited mobility. My right hand is a bit screwed up, that's all. Back due to being rear ended when I was 17. But I'm OK.

My fear is brain damage. Or worse, being stupid.

@anathema_device I really am not against disarming the people, as Australia did. It doesn't change the homicide rate very much. But part of doing this is FIRST you need to disarm the police. If this is not done, you end up with two classes of people, and that is dangerous.

@RickiTarr I went with "parents who had no business being parents ".

My father was emotionally abusive to me my entire life, until I cut him from my life in 1987. Apparently this was because he hated my mother or something... my 1/2 siblings did not have the same experience with him.

When he died, all I felt was relief.

My mother would have done better raising foster kids, not me. We still have a close relationship, but she is flawed.

@msquebanh About 10 years ago I remember needing Hanukkah candles. My family still has live Christmas trees, with actual candles on it. Christmas candles are no longer a thing, but Hanukkah candles are, so I bought some. I almost didn't, because I couldn't find any not made in Israel, and I couldn't stomach what settlers were doing to the West Bank.

I still bought them then.

Today, I would not.

One day, high capacity magazines, AR 15s, and assault rifles will be banned. The next day a mother will be comforted that it was an insurgent rifle, the AR 16, and the 1st round of the second magazine, rather than the 11th round from the 1st, that killed her child.

Until we address the root cause, young conservative men, there are no real fixes. Just marketing that will get people killed. Bandaid solutions that do nothing. And kick the problems down the road.
