The entire Star Wars Franchise was purchased for 40 billion dollars less than Twitter. I think about that sometimes.

Don't dress slutty, but please try to be sexy.

Be on the alert for predators at all times, this is your job, because they can't just be expected control themselves, but don't be afraid of all men...somehow.

You need to be strong, but not too strong, you don't want anyone to feel emasculated.

You need to want to have children, you have a womb, you just have to use it, but please don't let the children interfere with anything else you need to do. We are already doing you a favor giving you eight weeks of unpaid leave!

Be very thin, but also eat cheeseburgers and drink beer, because we don't want to acknowledge that for most people, being very thin involves not eating enough.

Be vulnerable and emotionally available, but I swear to God, if you cry at work, or express anger about anything, you're going to make everyone uncomfortable, HR needs to talk with you.

I get that you're working full time and 3 other people live in your house, but it's you're fault it's not clean enough, and did you really get take out again?

You need to have it all, but don't expect any hand outs.

Be smart, but don't show off, EVER, be demure, let them think it was their idea.

You need to be funny, but don't try to get attention, and don't snort laugh, and not too dirty, please don't mention your period!

And ffs, would it hurt you to smile?!

Here's what people on the outside looking in, don't get, Mastodon isn't an alternative to other social media, it is its own thing entirely.

That's what struck me about it, and why I'm still there. People on Mastodon didn't care how many people were on it or if their favorite celebrity or journalist was here. They want to build communities with real people.

All these kinds of articles are basically stating, "This wasn't for me, therefore these things are failures." How absolutely ridiculous.

It still gets me the Bible Jesus is a homeless socialist with brown skin, hangs out with 12 dudes and a Prostitute, tells rich people to pay their taxes and give their wealth to the poor, tells the religious leaders that they need to love everyone equally, gets a whip and goes hog on people using religion to sell stuff, and then straight up gets murdered for these beliefs. Yet somehow churches act like he's some kind of Conservative Haircut in khakis and a button up, who would support cutting welfare programs, and would preach Prosperity Gospel.

Have you ever been in a toxic relationship, but you didn't realize how toxic it was until after you were out of it?

I came to Mastodon looking for a replacement for Twitter. Thankfully, I didn't find it. Instead, I found a community of beautiful weirdos like me, who give me genuine hope for a better future.

I hate the attitude that working very hard is some kind of moral obligation, it just isn't. People on salary that get asked to work overtime are being stolen from, period. It's interesting how often jobs will ask you to prove that you're a good worker, but never have to prove that they are good employers. Just like any good relationship, you should never be giving more than you're getting back.

Yep, sometimes people are overly sensitive on Mastodon, and Yep, it can be more serious here sometimes too, BUT I in no way miss the bullying and harassment of anyone left of center, LGBTQ, women, people of color, anyone that was decided to be too "Woke". I don't miss how difficult it was to get rid of people who had blatantly broke the rules. I don't miss clique gangs who would randomly decided to destroy someone else's account because of pettiness. I most definitely don't miss actual fucking Nazis.

If people seem overly sensitive and serious, remember it's usually because they found a safer place to be themselves and they really really want to keep it that way. We have the opportunity to build, and maintain great things here. So, if you want more funny, make more funny, make whatever you want, let's just keep each other safe.

I'm going on a little rant. I see so many of these upper class influencers act like the reason that everyone doesn't have it all is because they just aren't working hard enough. Most people work ridiculously hard just to survive, and they just don't have time to work on their dreams or whatever side hustle they are supposed to be doing too, because Capitalism doesn't see the value in rest. Most of these Influencers are coming from a place of privilege anyway, they aren't doing their own laundry, cleaning their house, doing their bills, fixing their food, caring full time for their children or parents, or the other hundreds of little chores and annoyances that make up every day life. That's a full time job by itself that most people are doing on top of a full or part time job. If most people had that taken off their plate then sure they'd have time to "hustle" and "grind" on some kind of project that was just about their dreams. And it makes us feel guilty that we aren't doing enough, because our house wasn't clean enough, or you didn't get a workout in, or dinner was frozen, or you didn't get to take the kids to wherever. Listen friend, it's ok, you're allowed to order a pizza and veg out in front of a couple of reruns of Castle, or take a couple hours to read and have a cuppa, or scroll Mastodon in the bath. It's good enough to just make it through the day sometimes and you deserve rest and relaxation. Don't let someone who got incredibly lucky tell you otherwise.

Y'all want to hear a fact that really changed the way I thought about homelessness?

Half of all homeless people were in the foster system at some point. Social Workers often call the foster system The Highway to Homelessness. If you ever had a point in your life where you had to live with friends or family to for a short time to get back on your feet, remember that is a privilege that not everyone had.

I used to work at a restaurant that served these really good fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. They were made pretty regularly, so you'd never get a cookie that was more than an hour or two old. Despite this someone would inevitably ask for some fresh out of the oven. The problem with this was twofold:

  1. They took nearly 15 minutes to bake, way longer than anyone was willing to wait.

  2. If you know anything about baking soft chewy cookies, when they come out of the oven they are basically just molten goo, we had to wait 10 minutes before we were even allowed to take them off the pan.

So, we'd always tell people these things, and at least a couple times a week, someone would demand we do it anyway, and call the manager when we handed them a hot bag of cookie goo 15 minutes later. The restaurant eventually got rid of those cookies for something that was pre-made that tasted like Dollar Store cookies.

I thought about this a lot during the height of the Covid Pandemic, and every time a politician disagrees with a scientist about climate change. Anyway, welcome to Dollar Store Planet.
