"Isn't the king above the law?" kind of energy.

It's absolutely wrong to even entertain the idea of presidential immunity. A sane court would go with "No."

Any other answer basically says the POTUS could walk into their court and shoot each of them dead.

If that's not a prosecutable crime anymore, you might as well stop pretending and call it a monarchy.

This paper is trash. We do this every few years.

The conclusion is correct (graduate degree holding white men believe the most 'taboo' conspiracy theories), but the reasons it suggests why, are sociology-babble garbage. The real reason is:

  • Racism is a lie. To believe in racism, you must believe a set of easily debunkable lies.
  • Richer, whiter, maler, more educated populations are not less racist, despite attempts to twist stats to say this. They're more racist.

Wish white people would more often ask themselves exactly why they think the black person is lying, and how it would feel to have that logic applied to a white person.

There are only ~40 million Black people in the US. Population similar to Lagos state in Nigeria (the tiny red part).

There are ~250 million US white folk (~220 non-Hispanic white + ~30 million Hispanic white).

So Biden's "missing" 10% of Black men, is fewer than 2 million. Or less than 1% of white US population.🤡

White voters don't face the massive systemic voter suppression that Black voters do. So increasing white dem turnout is much easier.

So if your boy doesn't win, blame yourselves.

@StillIRise1963 It's definitely wrong how so many reports stop at repeating accusations of generic anti-semitism, without specifying what's so anti-semitic there.

Police "moved in" and "broke up" the protest? More like assaulted people who weren't in anyone's way.

It's clear that the people in power have decided we're supposed to hate the protestors.

The one thing which really surprised me about alt text is how many people without any visual impairment also read them.

People who don't "need" it still look for it.

It makes some sense, too. Often I include why I added the image, along with an explanation of what it means.

I'm sure that does help everyone understand faster and easier.

"The Why Files" is a youTube channel that regularly has videos with over a million views. They started as a kind of paranormal/fringe science channel that was mostly harmless, and that often debunked conspiracies.

But, they've moved beyond that in to material such as suppressed patents for cars that run on water. And treating climate change like it's a unresolved question. This has made their audience grow.

The things is they aren't just spitting lies. 1/

Unless we suddenly discover a way of sequestrating CO2 at scale which costs less energy than emitting it yields, the obvious solution to is to emit less.

From an engineering standpoint, it's really not a complex problem.

What makes it complicated is that people make money off continuing emissions. That's like 99% of the complexity.

It's not that they want to transition off fossil fuels more carefully. It's that they want to not transition at all.

While dialysis is still not available in , medical staff now report they don't have supplemental oxygen anymore so people who need it can just fucking choke to death.

Most moral army making sure the atrocities are as horrible as they can be.

There is only one party blocking fuel, food, medical supplies to Gaza. It's not complex.

So, reading the comments from my other post actually brings up some questions for me, I think we've all met people who seem to overestimate their abilities and equally we have met people who seem to underestimate their abilities. What is the difference? Is it misplaced confidence, narcissism, low self esteem? Do we need people who will just make decisions when necessary or is consensus always the path? Is Dunning-Kruger real?

I think in this post Trump Presidency era we all have questions about this, but honestly, that even started in the Bush era, are these men actually "dumb" or is this much more sinister?

@RickiTarr Some people never really hit the wall with their incompetence.

Like, if they mess up, someone else cleans it up for them. If they can't figure out how to fix something, they just buy a new one. If their failure costs money, they just pay.

If you're never stuck in the situation of "Either I can fix this or I'm fucked." you don't need a very humbling self-assessment of what you can and can't deal with.

The UK is really not good at dealing with water, because the government very sincerely does not care at all.

So no matter how good UK hydrologists are, the funding will not happen.

There's currently no dialysis for anyone living in .

Takes about 8 days for half of dialysis patients to die without it.

Maybe 40 days for all of them?

Note that some dialysis patients can't even manage 2 days without it.

It might not be getting shot, or bombed, but it still counts as murdering civilians.

One of the many problems with instances not dealing with antisemitism among their users at all or making a moderation announcement that borders on excusing antisemitism is that all the users who’ve been widely blocked, limited, and suspended elsewhere for antisemitism will notice your instance doesn’t do much about antisemitism and just start moving there.

Then your instance is filled with a whole lot of antisemitism.

@futurebird Bans on lab meat are 100% about protecting meat producers.

I've never seen it be about anything else.

The idea is that vat meat will blow away animal meat, because the inputs are so much cheaper and lead to more reliable outcomes.

That's the whole point of developing it.

And that would be extremely disruptive to today's meat producers.

Safer, cheaper meat which doesn't require any of their infrastructure is terrifying to them.

Part of our members & us, with our (holding new paddle). We train every Saturday morning, from .

Today, we worked on more race stops, transitions & on improving team timing/synchronization.

I led a good warm-up before we started & was put into front near end of practice. Our coach is also training me on doing drumming/calling out paddle beats so I can go on multiple boats for races. Our first race is May 26th!

Me with 4 other female team mates & our coach (she is on far right, holding black paddle) on upper wharf at Fairway Gorge Paddling Club. The Gorge Waterway is behind us.

It's not like you see one ad and boom you're propagandized.

It's a slow wearing down of your beliefs by making them seem a little too far out there.

It's so slow you don't notice it happening.

That's what's so dangerous about it. That's why you need to choose what media you read/watch/listen to.

If you spend too much time each week with the wrong influence, you will start to slide.
