Part 6 of "A Guide to Implementing ActivityPub in a Static Site (or Any Website)" is now out.

Sorry about the delay, this is the part that not many people will like, I assume. I try to explain how to implement the inbox, which by nature is dynamic non-static.

It is working! I have seen a few people asking official accounts on to join the (including myself), and I got this today ( department of transit)

UPDATE: They enable it, @wsdot

My favorite subversive small action these days is to like posts of in the , to cause people there FOMO and forcing them to be here.

A new project for the using , this is the deal, in case someone wants to help me, or collab in this adventure. Coding skills required but you do not need to be an expert.

Boost for reach.

I volunteer with a non-profit, and there are a few events where they issue digital badges, for now they are just images. Now, they are looking to do it more formally so we looked for commercial alternatives, like Credly, but they are vey cost prohibitive.

Oh wow, I had an old instagram account, so I enabled federation on to test it. I changed the username in instagram and it actually did the migration properly. Without intervention of my part I m followng the "new" account.

You know what is not so bad about the federating? That I would be able to follow official accounts of goverment/institutions/companies.

Still not as good as they having their own instance, but much better than following bot mirrors.

If you want to create a static site enabled and ready for the , in 10 minutes, free and no coding-skills required check this video: https://youtu.be/4Il3TUbo7WY

I finally had some time to create
at least a thumbnail, I also added
a few seconds at the end to configure your custom domain, and fixed some sync.

Powered by and a bunch of coffee and beer.

One of my favorite 10 minutes interactions in the @fediforum , was the one with @n00q regarding how he was able to have a working fediverse instance for his friends IRL.

The learning lessons there made me believe there is room for communities-driven instances for home-brewing, HOAs, universities, hobbyists, etc. I know some of these exists, but the kind of guerrilla marketing used in the n00q one was interesting.

I even believe there is a business model to pursue there.

All right my loyal feed,

I have created a template and a video to make things easier for others.

Happy to answer any questions or help others!

Alright, I've finished tidying up this little guy. If anyone wants to take an early look, here's the link:

https://github.com/mahomedalid/static-activitypub-blog-template

I'll be recording something tomorrow and adding a video there. The purpose is to make it easier for end users. I managed to get end-to-end functionality working in about 15 minutes.

So, no tags, I really want to have an easy first impression for new users.

Keeping things simple helps me to focus my time and resources. One of such features is the "Subscribe" modal on my site.

This is a quick note about how you can implement it too:

The part 4 for implementing ActivityPub for an "almost static site" has been slow, mainly because involves code and a tool that was on prototype.

But the first version of the "Rss2Outbox" cli is out there, will take a couple of days to document and be ready for prime time, but throwing it in case someone wants to take an early look.

Part 3 of "A Guide to Implementing ActivityPub in a Static Site (or Any Website)" is just out the oven!

In this blog post, I explain how to make your blog discoverable in the Fediverse as an account, and also address some of the annoying pitfalls I encountered.
