This is “Ro Ro Wreck Your Bout.” For a few years I had the pleasure of being her soccer coach. She was one of the best players I’ve ever had on my teams.

She recently got into roller derby and invited me to see her bout. It was so awesome. She’s an absolute beast. A brutal jammer.

And this sport is a great confidence builder for girls. It’s a place where they can realize their power and personality. I’m a new fan.

My favorite artist right now is Marnie Stern. She’s absolute fire. Kind of a more punk version of Liz Phair, with flavors of Blondie and Deerhoof.

Three months back she released a new single. I’m hoping for a new record this year. 🤞🏻

Also, Rolling Stone rightfully included her on their list of 250 greatest guitarists of all time. I concur.

For years I coached youth soccer. One of the girls I coached is now playing roller derby, and wants me to come see her bout (match).

I taught my girls to be strong, fast, and powerful. Roller derby is all about that.

It makes me feel good that her and her folks want me to be a part of her life. And knowing that I had an impact as a coach is absolutely delightful.

In my adolescence I began a journey of information literacy, questioning everything fed to me. Someone who seemed to always tell the truth, with integrity and compassion, was Dan Rather.

He was on the TV a lot when I was a kid. When he retired I was sad. But he’s still here, delivering the goods. And I’m grateful for that.
