I’m sitting at our dining table this morning and I hear scratching at the sliding glass door. My dog, Jack, is snoring in his crate next to me. I look and a wild bunny is sitting on their hind legs pawing at my door! What is going on?

Wild bunny sitting on my patio, peering through my sliding glass door waiting to be let in!

I'm going to ramble a bit, but it will hopefully come around to something. When I was growing up, I read a lot of older historical book series, a big one would be the Little House On The Prairie series. While I really enjoyed it, there are some very obviously negative portrayals of Native Americans and African Americans. I remember being angry about it as a kid, and my Dad telling me, that part of learning about history is that we have to acknowledge the people we were, and still are. But because Little House on the Prairie is only semi-autobiographical, I still have mixed feelings about this. I do think they are well written books by a female author, an interesting perspective on early American life, and as an adult I can see and acknowledge the issues with the text. If we try to get rid of every author with racist ideas there wouldn't be much left to read from the 20th Century, and it also feels like being dishonest about who we are. So, I'm very mixed, how do you all feel about it? Do you think children can handle books with racial issues like this if it's explained to them? What is our responsibility here?

@RickiTarr good parents teach right/wrong, kindness, compassion and how to survive as best we can in this difficult and dangerous world. Lessons should be tailored to each unique child. Hardest job there is.

My kid and their girlfriend moved in together. Movers overcharged by $500.00. Girlfriend called, left a message and didn’t hear back. She said she didn’t want to be “mean.” This morning, it was my kid’s turn. They left a polite and precise message at 8am explaining that the behavior of the company would force them to file a complaint with the AG’s office, BBB, their rep and they would stop payment on their credit card. They got a message within 30 minutes and refunded the $500.00. BE “MEAN."

A friend posted this on Strava yesterday after her dog joyfully rolled on a carcass while they were out on trail. Guess we know what that animal used to be! The good news is she pulled them all out (not deeply seated from rubbing vs. slamming into live porcupine?), but the bad news was the smell.
I love the photo, it's like, “what? I was having fun!”

So I says, “self, what would it be like if I mashed up some birria beef tacos with huevo rancheros?”

So “huevos birriancheros” were born!

(GF) flour tortillas, a layer of spicy pinto beans, then the top layer has birria sauce & beef.

I was GONNA make it a Benny but talked myself down to a 3rd egg.

I threw some birria sauce in the skillet before I cracked the eggs, so they cooked with a bit of flavour too. Homemade salsa & mashed avocado complete me — I mean, complete the dish.

There is so much freedom in not giving a shit about debating shit.

Like, I don't get paid to sit on tv and share big thoughts and predict bullshit like a pundit.

I'm doing this for free: sitting on the interwebs, drunk as hell off guava mimosas, sharing my personal despair that there's nothing I can do about the imminent ethnic cleansing we're witnessing.

Other folks might disagree.
Great. Good for them.
I don't care.

It is truly a bizarre and discomforting experience to spend the morning reviewing a dozen scientific studies demonstrating damages brains, reproductive systems, livers and other organs and then go to my Facebook feed to see photos of all my friends in planes, at concerts, and in crowded bars without masks. I sure hope there isn't a population-wide level of declining health and regret in the years to come. 😷 😨

tlemmink,
@tlemmink@mastodon.online avatar

@SkyLuke @augieray long Covid risks go up w subsequent infections according to the research. Go maskless (airborne disease) at your own risk. I’m not trying to be dramatic. All is ok until it is not and the people who have been irreparably harmed by Covid are being silenced

At the risk of repeating myself, here is a warning. You will move. At some point in your life, you will move. You may say to yourself, "I don't have a lot of stuff; it'll be fine."

    WRONG.

    "But - I don't buy a lot of stuff -"

You do. Trust me. Look in a closet and think of the logistics involved in packing that closet.

"That's you, not me. You have a lot of stuff, I have next to nothing."

    Wrong.

You. Have. More. Crap. Than. You. Know.

Thin it out every year. Trust me!
