I will still fail to understand why people are willing to flirt with platforms such as Bluesky and/or (potentially) Threads.
The Fediverse in general isn't perfect, no one should claim that it is. However, if you are willing to take the time to evaluate the instance that you sign up on, then you can expect to be protected most of the time.
It wasn't a random decision to jump over to tech.lgbt after mastodon.lol fell by the wayside.
I was looking for the following:
An LGBT related server that had healthy membership numbers
Permissive but fair policies
Responsible with their defederation list
Protective of their users
Signed up to the covenant
I believe that this instance 99.9% of the time gets these things right. My time here has been an overwhelmingly pleasant experience.
This place+fediverse may not attract the same numbers that corporate social media does. However, I really don't care, all the people I want to interact with are right here!
@tmfox The numbers issue is a populist irrelevance. How many people can anyone functionally interact with anyway? People need to stop being beguiled by capitalist myths of popularity and corporate media. We don't need to be on "the next big thing" (controlled by a CEO) but to find places where we can form unique communities that are welcoming, constructive and self-policed.
@autoerot1ca I'm definitely over the amount of active people that I can realistically get through in a day on here. I started my Twitter account in 2010 and never really found a regular community aside from people that I knew outside of Twitter.
There were one or two minor exceptions, but for a platform that I used for more than a decade it was rather unfulfilling.
