I deal with a lot of VMs for varying purposes, and it seems frequent that my purpose for opening firefox is derailed by some kind of nag. For example, I frequently get the “you haven’t used firefox in a while” in vms that I rarely use firefox and have to go disable the “meta refresh” option in the “about:config”....
You know, there is a lot that is to blame for why Firefox doesn’t get the market share that it needs, but I would blame a part on its community as well. I have never seen a community that is so reluctant to any change or basically any features being added to a product than the Firefox community.
Firefox developers:
Look! To try and make the browser easier to use for new users, we have added a pop-up remind you that hey, Firefox sync is an awesome feature of this browser. Because feature discoverability is hard.
The Firefox community five seconds later:
E N S H I T I F I C A T I O N
Mozilla isn’t perfect. Far from it. I have a lot of things to say about them and features that were never added or removed years ago that I’m still pissed off about and will continue to complain about until it is resolved, like fucking PWAs for example.
But damn, being a Firefox developer sounds really hard. Like, trying to please a bunch of people who are always complaining about the state of this browser, but also will, without fail, always complain every time you change or add features sounds fucking exhausting.

My mother crashed into five cars at once in a parking lot in February.
Since then, I've been practicing not driving. It takes a whole lot of re-learning, it's a mindset. And bus drivers and people on the bus aren't really patient or helpful while you learn. Fumbling for change while they are all silent and waiting is so embarrassing. I tried the app and it didn't work. The driver couldn't have cared less and shrugged so I just paid again in cash. I think the driver rolled his eyes. He didn't wait for me to sit, just lunged me into a seat.
I have my e bike but I'm afraid to try using the bike rack since I don't know how.
It's not easy to not drive.
@clive I love my rad power bike! Low on frills and quite solid. I’ve an arthritic knee and using a regular bike is often painful. My e-bike has pedal assist which allows me to exercise my knees without stress! I use it exclusively for short trips within five miles (groceries, etc.). I do worry about resources needed for making these batteries, but I’m using less gasoline and staying outta traffic. Otherwise, a very useful tool!

The problem is never on the tech end, assuming you wanted to make a good platform. That’s probably a 400-level CS class project, especially if you’re only dealing with a single library system that doesn’t have multi-million-user-scale and five-nines reliability needs.
The pitfalls are 99% about the business relationships and having to pre-enshittify the system to service them-- getting the publishers to trust the platform will enforce DRM and related random shitty deals (i. e. that ebooks have to be retired after n loans, as though they wear out like a paperback). I’d expect there’s virtually no trust for a new player.
What’s needed is mandatory licensing. The libraries and their software dev partners decide what terms they want, they get a standard price card, and the publishers have to eat it.
There are safety rules about e-bike batteries, but they are widely flaunted and not enforced.
" Records obtained by THE CITY reveal widespread disregard of summonses for retailing batteries without safety certification. Scofflaws range from Amazon, Best Buy and Target to corner e-bike shops across the five boroughs. "
The first modern performance of Claudio Monteverdi's opera Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria occurred in Paris.
Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria is an opera consisting of a prologue and five acts (later revised to three), set by Monteverdi to a libretto by Giacomo Badoaro. The opera was first performed at the Teatro Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Venice during the 1639–1640 carnival season. The story is taken from the second half of Homer's Odyssey.

Five things to consider when making the transition to a new email address
Work and school emails are fine, but they might not last forever (and often neither does using an ISP e-mail address if you ever want to switch ISPs). You need something you can always come back to.

English writer and poet Edith Nesbit died #OTD in 1924.
She published over 60 books for children, including novels, collections of stories, and picture books. Among her most famous works are "The Railway Children," "Five Children and It," and "The Phoenix and the Carpet." There was a NoStupidQuestions post about properly locking bikes to avoid theft and it got me thinking. I’m in a rural area so I never leave it anywhere. Any advice or rookie mistakes to avoid if I do plan to ride around a city?
No cable locks. Bad, and you get what you deserve.
Something that’s a pain in the ass to cut. Nothing is impossible to cut, but a decent u-lock, good chain, good folder, is the way to go. if you are regularly locking up in a specific place, you might be able to leave a heavier lock (chain) there and not have to haul it around.
Something noisy. A brake disc alarm, or two of them, that go off with movement. Getting attention is good.
If it’s an e-bike, take the battery with you.
My goal is to make stealing my bike more of a pain than moving on to the next bike, probably secured with a cable lock from Walmart. It might take five minutes to steal my bike and 20 seconds to steal the next guy’s, about all you can really do.
Finally, have insurance. This world is full of fucking assholes.
