Withering heat is more common, but getting air conditioning is still a struggle in U.S. public housing.

NPR reports: "Those who live in public housing are especially vulnerable to the heat — they're not just low-income, but also disproportionately older, people of color, chronically ill and often living in hotter neighborhoods that lack shade from tree cover."

@geekaren Thank you. This is extremely urgent: “A lot problems with heat in cities. Need to democratize access to air conditioning, add shade structures in cities, begin "whitening" cities to reflect away some heat (e.g., white roofs).”
My window in my small apartment konks out if the humidity and temp are too high. I suspect ConEd is doing little brownouts. NYC needs to prepare cooling shelters situated in every neighborhood with cots, refreshments and social distancing.

Lots of rebates/incentives for customers for switching to a (not sure how these pencil out, but worth a look). https://incentives.switchison.org/residents/incentives?field_zipcode=91360&field_zipcodes1=91360&field_functional_category=6

Seasonal reminder that Drying mode on ACs can do a LOT of heavy lifting, cooling your place down while drawing a fraction of energy required for the usual Cooling mode.

Handy types can also think up ways to use this free water. Win-win!

    📷 Morning, y'all.

No sleep to 6 this morning, so I'm not slacking. Jack woke me, or I'd still be out.

At the back door (sliding glass), I felt the heat radiating in from a couple feet away.

It's easily the hottest and muggiest day since last August—92º/feels like 99º with 65% humidity and an AQI of 11 (severe). There *will be a t-storm today.

Jack wanted no part of the heat, either. Back inside, I'm thankful we have air-conditioning.

I hope your goes well. Mine has been...busy so far, but that's normal. Having issues with our unit at our house - which will hopefully get resolved.

Hope you have a great one!

I have three redundant units at work. If they all fail, I want to know. So I can race to work and pop doors and set fans and dump . Thankfully I haven’t needed to do it once. But knowing the temperature of my machine room helps me sleep at night. I don’t worry over it. Heh, pennies for peace of mind.

It’s happening! Right now in Phoenix, we’re getting a new AC unit. The crane is coming in a few minutes. Foreground monster unit is the actual right size for this home. All new duct work too. It’s very common here these units are on the roof. Still seems weird to me when in the Midwest they are in the house or outside on ground.
