Breathless headlines about “the Air Force AI drone killed its human operator so it could score more kills” do not illuminate anything.

The simulated Air Force drone simulated killing its human operator in a simulation so it could score more simulated kills.

Yes, but...AI is literally untethered from reality. It's not a simulation to the AI.

The “AI” we have can’t think and doesn’t have concepts of anything and doesn’t know anything.

Therefore it can’t “attack its enemies”, for the AI there is no such thing as enemies, it literally anything.

All it is is generated formulas based on statistical analysis.

This works great for some use cases, and really not at all for others.

Definitely it will not try to kill you or anyone else. It doesn’t know or understand that there is a you.

Pampa,

@thomasfuchs

The threat is far more profound and insidious than you imagine.

Yes, the next drawing is underway. The AI text prompt for the drawing in Stable Diffusion was, "And it howled so spooky for its soul."

The result was a purely conceptual image, not the cartoon I dreaded. After my death there will be dozens of Master's Theses written about this work.
