@willoremus
This was a great episode of a podcast I’d never listened to before (there are so many).
Your segment about #AI hearings in #congress was great, but the episode also included an excellent informative segment on #WritersStrike, and Cory Doctorow @pluralistic on how to fix the internet. A triple winner episode!
Twitter's blue checkmark system had something to do with it; those users were suspended, and the #stockmarket took a big dive as a result of the incident.
Saul Bass (1920-1996) was a prominent American graphic designer and filmmaker known for his innovative work in film title sequences, posters, logos, and corporate identity design. He collaborated with directors like Hitchcock, Kubrick, and Scorsese, and created iconic logos for brands such as AT&T and United Airlines. His legacy continues to influence design and visual communication.
It took me 20 seconds to plop a hippopotamus next to the Golden Gate Bridge. Adobe has built its Firefly generative AI tool straight into Photoshop, and it's a big deal. The beta is out today.
On my main account, I posted some news about #AI being used to #misinform others. I would like to remind the Sakurajima community and neighboring communities that #misinformation will not be tolerated and is against our rules. @chikorita157, @NaraMoore, @cymaiden, @kbnet, and I will moderate misinformation and take the appropriate #moderation actions when we find out about a case of misinformation in our part of the #fediverse; we also will not take reports of misinformation lightly and respond ASAP.
@therealjimlove@briankrebs Lemoine’s "interview" is no more convincing today than it was a year ago. LaMDA is no more "Artificial Intelligence" than are #ChatGPT, #Bard, or any other large language model. Calling them "AI" is fraudulent. The charlatans wringing their hands over the bullshit fears of 'takeoff' and 'hyper-intelligent AGI' all have vested interests in that fraud.

"All the people talking about "existential risk of #AI" are duping you. They're the threats. They don't want you to talk about them, but want you to imagine some super robot god instead and worry about regulating that. Quite brilliant on their part really."
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from Scene 5 to Scene 6 and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an AI and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.
..
SIMON: … you know, when I sold all the scripts I sold ... I didn't sell them so that they could be thrown into a computer with other people's and be used again by a corporation.
