I talked with On the Media about AI regulation, what Sam Altman didn't tell the Senate, and how focusing on the long-term risks of AI (i.e. that it will get too smart) risks exacerbating the more immediate risks (i.e. that it gets entrusted with tasks for which it's too dumb). https://www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/otm/segments/how-the-ai-senate-hearing-missed-mark-on-the-media

This was a great episode of a podcast I’d never listened to before (there are so many).

Your segment about hearings in was great, but the episode also included an excellent informative segment on , and Cory Doctorow @pluralistic on how to fix the internet. A triple winner episode!

Has AI already become sentient? Listen to this re-enactment of the interview between the Google researchers and their AI LaMDA as see what you think.

@therealjimlove @briankrebs Lemoine’s "interview" is no more convincing today than it was a year ago. LaMDA is no more "Artificial Intelligence" than are , , or any other large language model. Calling them "AI" is fraudulent. The charlatans wringing their hands over the bullshit fears of 'takeoff' and 'hyper-intelligent AGI' all have vested interests in that fraud.

OpenAI publishes their plan for ‘governance’ of AI - and of course, it suits their purposes. That said, it’s a start and I applaud OpenAI for publishing it. These kinds of serious discussions and debate are necessary to get regulation, oversight and governance RIGHT - for all involved. https://openai.com/blog/governance-of-superintelligence
