Not the best quality photo, I need to set up my desk lights still... but DAMN dinner tonight was good.

Spicy lobster rolls on homemade toasted New England buns, with salad and fries.

Oooo June's Just One Cookbook cooking challenge is chicken teriyaki!

I haven't made that in ages, but it's so good and honestly quite simple.

Time to remedy that and put it on the menu!

θύμον (thúmon) in Ancient Greek refers to thyme. Same as French "thym," oe Swedish "timjan." Some suggest that it comes from a pre-Greek word that simply refers to the plant. However, others proposed something interesting: what if it derives from θύω (thúō), meaning "to smoke"? Thyme has been burned to release its esences into the air since antiquity. It could be.

Stepped out for some groceries, and noticed a good deal on local . Well, Ontario at least. Two for $5 - yes please.

Now I'm thinking a strawberry-rhubarb might be possible for tonight.

If I make it and eat it all in one sitting we can just pretend it never existed when K gets home tomorrow.

Well the sustainable fish supper was really good, and the pie beeped at me just at the end.

We have a successful (looking) rhubarb and strawberry . The proof will be in the eating. Holding off on that until I get the bread in the oven! Ugh.

It's risen nicely since lunch and I just formed it up into loaves.

Quite a continuous marathon since about 4:30pm when delusions of edible grandeur took over.

Today has already been a busy day. I had to get a haircut, grocery shop, do some cleaning, do the laundry, make home made mac & cheese, make an improvised gluten-free "shortcake" by modifying the Pamelas Banana Bread recipe (making some guesses there), and prepping the strawberries.

I will end up doing all of the cooking and everything else, but I won't get to as much cleaning as I wanted.

Really happy with the haircut though.

Fridge clean out breakfast burritos this morning made with fresh eggs from a co-worker. Not pictured is my wife's that got shrimp and onions instead of steak.

patatas bravas for lunch, yesterdays mango cheesecake.

the former was AMAZING (but i put too much chicken stock in the source because i liked the bubbling noise lol)
the latter was fine but the base was too dry for me

a 1/4 of a pale orange cheesecake. the base is almost ashen-white

The California origin of "A to Z Bread"

In which I obsessively trace the history and authorship of the A to Z bread recipe

The post you are about to read is not a prelude to a recipe. This is not a recipe blog, and this is not a recipe blog post. This is a tale of mild obsession (mine) to find the origin of a recipe, and to correctly credit the creator.

(edit: the official TapTap's Cooking Adventure Thread🧵)

This one came out iffy but it's mostly my fault. I didn't want this one (missed the chance to pick)

Should have trimmed the green beans better, I added potato water back and shouldn't have, but it tastes good so who cares. I already put some of the potatoes in a tub so it looks unbalanced

It's been about 6 months and a couple of pronouns since the last "decent home meal" post!

Here is pork sausage, tomato, and peas soup with bread

Bread was burnt, who cares, delicious. My toaster oven seems 50-100 degrees hot.

Should have cooked before doing the nails, smudged one of the thumbs but oh well, learning. Also first time doing REAL cooking with the kittens harassing me
