TRENT REZNOR Reflects On The Downward Spiral Turning 30 Years Old
"Be kind to yourselves. Hope to see you soon."
Today of course marks the 30th anniversary of nine inch nails' legendary record The Downward Spiral. This masterpiece of an album was released March 8, 1994, and was a pretty intense thing for 14 year old me to hear.
This photo is from Instagram - Trent just posted it, saying what 28 year old him had to say still excites him but breaks his heart. It's a dark album, man. All the pigs are still lined up.
30 years ago today (Feb 25, 1994), nine inch nails released the first single from The Downward Spiral, 'March of the Pigs'. I had this record pretty soon after it came out and I played it nonstop. World changing. Step right up.

Ministry released their fourth album, “The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste”
Another move towards the industrial metal sound they’d become known for, this time with lots of guitars. In the 80s, they were a new wave synth pop band.
Their previous record, 1988’s “The Land of Rape And Honey” introduced a much more aggressive metal sound, though with more sampling and less guitar.
They toured a lot in support of this album, and iirc, the industrial metal sound was ascendent at this time (e.g. Pretty Hate Machine came out a month prior and was building a fan base).
Hello new server! I'm not new to Mastodon, thanks.
I'm excited to share my music, listen to yours, and get to know everybody.
My background was in visual art until a few years ago, when I started producing music electronically with Dreams on PS4. I got a degree in audio engineering. Lately, I'm doin weird things with an electric cello.
Feelin the patriotism? Wanna support somebody's music? I'm living and making music in the US. Today's a day for making noise. Use my music to add flavor. Hahaha
Please don't blow your hands off playin with fireworks, ok?
Was anyone here a devotee to rec.music.industrial in the 90s?
Remember the tapes and CDs the group produced? I was on a few.
I even recall getting a $1 royalty check because one of them was packaged into an... Alternative Press (?) magazine monthly issue on newstands. I never got a copy of that mag and wish I had.
#Industrialmusic heads and others who would know: check out this very strange edit war on Wikipedia, revolving around the assertion that a Guadeloupean-French singer contributed to the first #ThrobbingGristle single, “United/Zyklon B Zombie.” This, to put it mildly, is news to me, and I know the history of this band fairly well. Does anyone know the story behind this? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/1127251549
