Magnificat, for unaccompanied choir, was written for the New York Virtuoso Singers in 2000. It is dedicated to the loving memory of my great-aunt Dorothy McMullin, Sister of Mercy (1904-1999), whose love and joy, kindness and good humor inspired all who knew her.
SF #Choral Society celebrates the first #concert program in its 35th anniversary season with a performance of Antonin Dvorak's Mass in D Major, Op. 86 (1887) and "Goin' Home," a song arrangement attributed to William Arms Fisher, based on Dvorak's famous "Largo" theme played on English Horn from his Symphony No. 9 (From the New World), Op. 95.

Happy #Easter to those who celebrate. It being #GoodFriday tomorrow, I'm reposting this terrific performance of my Seven Last Words, with the Australian Chamber Choir conducted by Douglas Lawrence, AM.
As there is a new aboombong album of #music out soon, I am revisiting previous releases.
After the success of collaboration on articulations, I decided to continue the trend with the 9th aboombong album, AGNOSIS. This time I reached out to a friend I met while working on my PHD., Lana Van Boven, a trained #opera singer, her husband Brian Shaw (#flugalhorn), who is a music professor, and an old bandmate, David Liso, who I have been in several bands with. Pulling from ancient texts/music, deconstructing them, and the rebuilding them, AGNOSIS ended up exploring the connection between classical traditions and modern music. A rewarding project. #4thWorld#ambient#piano#choral#experimentalMusic#bandcamp
At Origins + Exploration tomorrow, Chronos Vocal Ensemble presents Stuart Beatch,’s ‘Girl Hours’. Using text by Sofia Samatar, this work centres the important early contributions of women calculators in astronomy. Here’s a clip of Chronos in rehearsal, join us on Saturday to hear the full work!
I wouldn't expect much other than very sad AI generated drone music out of me currently, although I may be forced to re-engage with the crypto art scene to try to raise funds.
Im Rahmen des europäischen Projektes #Choral "Contributing to the creation of #cultural#heritage through the choice of French as a form of #artistic expression" wird ein #Promotionsstipendium an der Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour und Università di Torino angeboten.
Any time period, any style -- I'm interested in seeing different ways of combining these forces, and studying the nuts and bolts of #orchestration.
If you're a #conductor, #choral director, or #composer who has wrestled with this, what would you say are the key do's and don'ts of writing for this combination?
Hey there, #blind Fedi user hive mind. I'm wondering if any #choral singers might know of where one could find #Braille music, specifically octavo scores (not major works) besides the Library of Congress NLS Music Division. Is the RNIB or other international catalogs available outside of their respective countries? I've been part of a local choir for a year, but feel very discouraged that they mostly do octavos and not major works because Braille music is hard to find. Thank you for any help!
In a subdued, Autumn mood today. Listening to the fabulously beautiful choral music of Morten Lauridsen - who surely is the greatest living choral composer if not the GOAT. I am not a religious person, quite the contrary, but I do recognize that human composers have written, by definition, some of their most inspired musical works while contemplating or celebrating the divine myth. I have an extensive choral music playlist on my YouTube channel (link in my bio). #Choral#ChoralMusic#ChoralWorks#Chorale#Choir#Music#Singing#SaturdayVibes#MortenLaurdisen#MasterChorale#songs

If you've been following #ChoirsForClimate you might have noticed I've written a fair few pieces for it - here they all are in one place! https://hutchingsmusic.co.uk/choirs-for-climate/ They're all released free under #CreativeCommons licenses - free to download and perform, ideally to raise funds or awareness, or campaign, for climate/ecological causes. More about each of them below: 🧵Please boost if you know anyone interested in #choir / #choral music, #singing, #conducting, etc. , or send the link directly to them.
"Written in July 2023, over the course of four days in which the measured worldwide average temperature broke the previous heat record every single day, this piece is intense, repetitive and discomfiting."
I love finding new music, especially ethnic roots music, and learning the stories and performers behind the tunes. As mentioned in my bio, I’m an amateur ethnomusicologist, and I collect music videos and have them organized into 19 playlists on my YouTube channel. The channel is over a decade old & my collection of tunes has been years in the making. In some cases, I have published articles about the various genres on my Medium page. Here’s a link to my Afrobeat/Afropop playlist - almost 130 music vids of the best the continent has to offer IMO. Especially fond of West African Griots and guitarists. Also the standout female African vocalists and instrumentalists like Kidjo, Diawara, Nneka, ASA and Jobarteh. #music#afrobeat#AfricanMusic#Africa#YouTube#MusicVideo#playlisthttps://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE6DB27B73B588787
In addition to my extensive ethnic music video playlists on my personal YouTube channel, I am also a fan of #choralmusic and have a playlist devoted to my favorite choirs and choral groups. I am definitely not religious in the traditional sense, I’m a Pythagorean by faith, but I recognize that composers past and present do some of their best work when inspired by their concept of the divine - so I overlook overt religious references in favor of the marvelous harmonies and compositional excellence. So if you’re a fan too, you may enjoy this playlist. #music#choir#choirs#choral#MusicVideo#playlisthttps://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0iiAuVrDAzHbYzqhpmjvJ-tfkan9Z8u_
