Filenames for Shows in HD and 4K

When I have a movie in HD and 4k, it's really simple to add a dash after each filename, which let's the user choose which to play. (such as Moviename - HD and Moviename - UHD4K. This does not work for shows. How can I get the same experience for shows as for movies, where I see one episode, but can choose the format to watch?

Not everyone leaving Reddit is coming to the fediverse; Jellyfin are going back to BBS lol

ajsWritesThings,

@tgpo afaik there's going to be a community presence on Lemmy, but the official channel (formerly Reddit) is going to be BBS. I guess it doesn't make much difference

One thing and with them every other streaming provider needs is: no playing of Christmas songs during the non-christmas season.

Silverbells by Dean Martin is a great song, no question, but it feels mismatched while sitting in the sunny garden in June 🤷‍♂️

@aaronbieber @Face I self-host a streaming platform of sorts, via as well. Maybe not , would be the alternative, but still quite nice!

Who remembers being excited about the new VHS T-120 tapes and the number of minutes they could record?

Oh, the length we could record at one setting on the VCR!

Man juggling VHS tapes the putting one into a VCR.

@az I have a Hauppauge Quad card in my computer & WinTV-DCR-3250 cablecard device https://www.hauppauge.com/pages/products/data_dcr3250.html

Pretty much useless now.

I'm in a region where we get no OTA tv stations. Used to get the motherload until we moved here.

I use ( https://NextPVR.com ) and pair it with (opensource Plex) for live TV. ( https://jellyfin.org/ )

Luckily, NextPVR has a Pluto Plugin that lets me "DVR" what is on Pluto, including OnDemand https://github.com/sub3/NextPVR/wiki/Extra-PlutoTV

Im Gegensatz zur offiziellen App funktioniert Gelli wunderbar. Keine Aussetzer mehr und Gapless Playback geht auch 🤷‍♂️

I'm currently working on testing out and prototyping a new based on ! The hardware isn't new because I'm just recycling my old desktop (previously known by the hostname Higher and later Radiance) with the goal of building a replacement for my current Sunfish server with a better CPU (for now a dual core but I'm planning an upgrade), more RAM (16GB over the current 4GB, although no more ECC), tons of RAID configured hard disks (currently testing old random disks) and much more!

Photo of the Samsung CRT showing the neofetch of the server with NixOS 22.11, the Linux-libre kernel version 6.2.11, Plasma Wayland, the Pentium G4400 dual core CPU with its HD Graphics 510 and the 16GB of RAM with currently 2.1GB in use.
Peeking at the internals, the motherboard with a stock Intel cooler and a bunch of hard drives shelved in the case metal rails.

The main advantage of using is that the whole system and its services can easily be configured with just one (or optionally multiple) configuration file. For example, in just a few lines of Nix (the declarative language used by the Nix package manager) I can tell what packages have to be installed, in my case stuff like , , , etc., and I can tell it how each service must be configured (Nginx virtual hosts, Syncthing config and data folders and so on).

[How does Fedora look and feel so much better than MacOS ever did on this device?]

@brainofdane @passthejoe Indeed. I have 6 Macs in my house, and 3 of them run . I really only keep on my iMac because of the outstanding apps, on my wife’s for the Silhouette software, and my mother’s Mac mini because she’s 82.

I have a Mac mini running server and for , , , & , and two MacBooks that are part of a pile of 5 laptops I use for . None are newer than 2015.

Really important security fix out there for Jellyfin users: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/releases/tag/v10.8.10

Looks like the docker images are already updated too.

If you use media server, you need to upgrade immediately or shut your server down.

From Jellyfin, " It is absolutely critical that Jellyfin administrators upgrade to this new version if you are on the 10.8.z release train, and likely a very good idea to finally upgrade to 10.8.z if you are running an older major release."
