Most famous "western" websites and services are blocked here in #Iran. Of course you can use a VPN or something similar to access them but I am glad to be able to use my #Matrix server and my #Mastodon instance without VPN.
I even can watch movies stored at home using #Jellyfin.
The government of course could block access to my IP at home to but I think they don't care, Instagram seems to be a more important enemy.
I have a question regarding Authentik (I'm having my first go at setting up a centralized authentication system, and I'm having trouble writing the correct Google query for this):
Suppose I have Jellyfin (JF) running. Each user has their own JF account, and I only have one admin account in Authentik. Does every JF user have to also have an Authentik account?
@davidbures That's more a #Jellyfin question than Authentik. If it supports local users and SSO users in parallel (e.g. by offering a login form and a "Login via SSO" button side by side), they don't. Otherwise, they do.
A screenshot of my Jellyfin server's main page. (Note "server" = "running on my Mac Mini with my files stored on an external HD".)
Note I put "Looney Tunes" in their own category (using the "movies" setting, since they're animated theatrical shorts) to not mix them up with feature films or TV shows. "Specials" = various holiday specials or the "Peanuts" specials.
Okay, fine, #jellyfin. You shut down Reddit as a means of support.
Unfortunately, Discord & Matrix do not fill that void the way you think it does. So, at this moment, me and 137 of my closest friends are staring at a Dead End sign thinking, "Well, now what?"
Advice, buy directly from your favorite indie artists. Pirate any millionaire artist. Make a server with #jellyfin or smth and stream it to your devices.
I actually have the "share my entire viewing history with friends" thing enabled in #plex. It's only fair. I could already spy on what everyone else watched on my server. They might as well be able to see what I watch.
And the only Plex "friends" I have are the tiny handful of family & friends with access to my server.
People used Trakt for a reason. Isn't this basically just that? Plus the boneheaded opt-out decision that will probably sink them.
@RxBrad I just got an email this morning about my "friends" and what they are watching. This is not what I want in a media server.
Now if only the #jellyfin client for Roku would get a few improvements (the team is actively working on it), it would be as good if not better than what Plex offers.
It's not perfect but at least it works and I'm not being spied on.

Oh boy! It's been a weird battle, but I've finally got my #raspberrypi4 running #jellyfin smoothly. I had some trouble with permissions, mounting drives on startup and more. Then when I solved that (thank you various resources online) I had power draw issues from dual external drives connected to the pi. Eventually got it to a point where it got all ironed out and I swapped the dual (2TB) drives for a single 4TB self powered drive and all is well.
