US Congress is attempting to slip the Kids Online Safety Act into the must-pass FAA reauthorization package. The bill claims to make kids safer, but it’s really a dangerous censorship bill that will give the US government unprecedented control over the Internet.

US Americans: call your representatives NOW to oppose KOSA. This website gives you the phone numbers and script:

The dangerous Kids Online Safety Act now has a House version, and some lawmakers are seeking to attach the bill to must-pass legislation. Legislation of this magnitude deserves to pass—or fail—on its own merits. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/05/us-version-kosa-still-censorship-bill

It's wild that all the nonprofits are suddenly on board with . Big mistake they will come to regret. Why do we keep handing more power to our government even as fascists attempt to take over?

So the bill isn't dead yet.

If in USA, please go demand of your reps that it die. It's a censorship act. It has nothing to do with kid's safety. Thanks.

Hey btw everyone should be panicking about KOSA. This bill would require everyone to upload your government ID in order to use most sites on the internet.

The Kids Online Safety Act still gives federal and state officials the power to target lawful speech online, and it will still harm a wide range of children who rely on the internet to access information and find their communities. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/02/dont-fall-latest-changes-dangerous-kids-online-safety-act

I just called my Senators and let them know I am absolutely opposed to becoming law and, for , my horror that someone also a member of the community as I am would think this bill does anything apart from putting the community in danger.

Call them.

One-size-fits-all approach to online safety won’t keep kids safe. Underlying is a belief that there’s consensus re: type of content/design features causing harm to young people. Applying that reasoning limits teens from exercising agency/accessing communities benefiting them
