Kupiłem kilka dni temu nowy telefon z Androidem.
W tapetach... Wszędzie...
Does anyone know of a modern #Android phone which allows call recording without root?
I'm currently on an aging 5T running #LineageOS and can record calls just fine - a button in the dialler lets me record straight from the line. I don't need to put it on speaker and record via the microphone.
(Looking for 1st hand experience, not search results. No need to reply to discuss the legality of call recording. I need root-less for online banking etc.)
I've realised that the three things I use #root for on #Android are:
🚫 Ad blocking. Which I guess I could do with a VPN based blockers?
📲 Call recording. Google have killed that off entirely, only available in custom ROMS.
🔄 Swapping the bottom buttons to be ⏹️ 🔘 ◀️. My neuroplasticity can't cope with the "wrong" way.
🆕 blog! “The limits of General Purpose Computation”
Should my bank be able to block me from using their Android app, just because my phone is rooted? I'm reluctantly coming to the conclusion that... yeah, it's fair that they get to decide their own risk tolerance. Sage of the Internet, and general Sooth Sayer, Cory Doctorow once gave an impassioned…

It can be tough using #Android custom ROMs like #LineageOS without #Google Play Services. One of the #apps you'll likely find most difficult to leave behind is Google Maps.
Try these map app alternatives: OsmAnd+ and Organic Maps (both open source) and Magic Earth (proprietary).
They're not perfect, but we shouldn't expect perfection, especially of most #opensource developers, and especially if we're striving to take back control of our data and protect our #privacy. 👍
I'm thinking about migrating my #Pixel#Android to #LineageOS because #OpenSource, but am concerned that some apps - like banking #DKB, my health insurance #Generali and maybe others - may refuse to work due to issues with Device Integrity and/or detected root.
Is there some way of analyzing my device and apps prior to installing LineageOS to see which apps would be problematic?
@OpenSource@foss It would be great if we had a LineageOS/GrapheneOS image that would be similar to Linux distros where they could be installed on any Android phone and it would auto download/install all the drivers needed for the phone to be fully functional. I really hope there is some work being done on this in the background.
Which alternate OS should I install on my backup Android phone, a Google Pixel 5a 5G? I was going to test #GrapheneOS, but I waited a while and now my phone is only supported until August 2024. https://grapheneos.org/faq#device-lifetime
This is a problem plaguing all Android devices, they become very difficult to keep secure once Google stops providing security updates. #CalyxOS seems to provide an extra year: https://calyxos.org/docs/guide/device-support/
Got this message from #slack:

Google is about to make life more difficult for custom ROM fans (www.androidauthority.com)
Google has quietly deprecated the Messages and Dialer apps in AOSP, and it could have ramifications for upstart brands and custom ROM fans.
