Years ago I was lucky to see what became known as the Mifflin #meteorite. Very bright, flashing, colorful. It traversed a long path. I will never forget it.
There are moments in our lives that unexpectedly become pivotal.
Like when Alessandra learned there is no word for privacy in #russian making her think about how each #language carries the different culture of its people...
Grosse #météorite dans le ciel de #toulouse, suivie d'un bruit sourd d'explosion à peu près 2 mn après sa désintingration... impressionné d'avoir vu ça depuis mon balcon.. Quelqu'un d'autre l'a vue?
A Rock Fell From #Space Into Sweden. Who Owns It on Earth? #Sweden’s courts have been debating claims to a #meteorite that fell north of #Stockholm, including whether right to move around in nature, including on private property, extends to claiming a meteorite. The legal case took another turn on Thursday, when an appeals court ruled in favor of the landowner, overturning a decision that had sided with the two men who had recovered the meteorite. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/22/world/europe/sweden-meteorite-ownership.html https://archive.ph/rYPRw
An #arrowhead made of #meteorite iron: around 1,500 BC, a meteorite struck #Estonia. A fragment of it arrived - presumably in the baggage of an amber trader - at what is now Lake Biel, #Switzerland. An arrowhead was then made there from the cosmic iron.

Fragments of an asteroid that exploded over Germany on Jan. 21 and were recovered five days later have been confirmed to be a rare space rock type that could help shed light on Earth's origins. As initially reported on Feb. 1, scientists suspected that the strange appearance of the meteorite fragments from the parent asteroid 2024 BX1 indicated they were part of a rare group called aubrites. These suspicions have now been confirmed.

This slice is from #meteorite NWA 15662. It was recovered from the Algerian Sahara in 2022.
🧵 It's been a photographically interesting evening on a cold crisp night in #Assynt I wanted to do an equalisation charge on Goth Leo the #EV, and also get to grips with his lights, which I will need for the first time this week. So I decided to have dinner at An Cala in Lochinver, leaving the car on charge, and taking a slow walk with my camera.
Some so-so shots coming up, and then in a while, one of Cartier Bresson's "Decisive Moments."
Here's the harbour, looking calm and inviting.
🧵 cont.
I was taking several images to ensure I had as sharp a set as possible All of these pics are straight from the camera.
And when I checked the image, I almost gasped - there, with the aurora, was a meteorite trail.
I have never been quite so fortunate with any previous decisive moment. #meteorite
