Finished coding my #Neocities simple Links page in Brackets today - awesome app! The page is just a blogroll. But the app UX and setup are super handy.
Downloaded my whole HTML site, opened offline in Brackets, saw real-time edits in the browser live-preview, then uploaded the file to my blog. So good.
I have a feeling setting up #Neocities like this is the reason why Visual Studio Code isn't adding the HTML and CSS folders to the workspace. What do yalls look like? Should I not have anything in the Home bit?
For my #EnemyAce fansite, I've posted a good entry on his Appearances page: his, well, appearance on the late 2000s show "Batman: The Brave and the Bold!" :batman:
I uploaded two small vids, screenshots and even character materials--and of course my thoughts :blobHappy: :blobMeltSobLove:
Did you know that I made a website back in 2020? There are things that I put on here that I wouldn't do these days but I still like it a lot. It's still up if you want to take a look: https://eblu.neocities.org
you: ive been a web developer for 12 years, full stack, SPAs, node, electron, you name it
me: oh that's javascript right? so you write little scripts. little scripts for websites? like when its halloween, and you put a thing in the site so theres a little bat that follows your cursor? thats really cute! i know a lot of people say javascript isnt real programming but i bet youre bringing a lot of joy to people :)
@jk#neocities is the last place you can find REAL #javascript on the web, and REAL HTML, too, including using the id attribute as if they were the class attribute. It keeps browser developers' ego in check.
I have a little digital garden #blog...I don't know where the best place to host it would be.
I know there's GitHub pages but I don't want to host my #fiction and random stuff like that placed publicly and in with my code.
Something tells me it won't be purely fiction as I want to put some progress logs there for various things eventually.
Does anyone else have any ideas of a great free place to host a site made with a static site generator? (Because I'm cheap and currently unemployed rn.)
there's honestly nothing substantial i wanna promote about the blog post itself, but i just want people to see the fruits of my labor figuring out theme switching for the first time 🥺 #webmasterbaby#neocities#indieweb
I added a new pawpad cursor and new paw pointer to the site.
These are more things I am going to add to the f2u use pile later on.
When I make these new pixels I am going to add in tutorials in their art files on how to add them to a website or make a lil text doc for them insite for them.
@rjestudioarts
If you think about it, a guestbook is basically just a comment system for the website itself.
And web-rings are basically any websites that link to each other.
Hmm... maybe I should do that. Put links to my favorite websites on my own site. But I'm not very sociable, so most of them would tend to be homebrew software websites. I wish more artists had their own websites. I have many favorites but they rarely have websites.
Fiddling with my #neocities site (https://scratchingsblog.neocities.org), figureing out how to get a generally dark theme while keeping it readable, in the assumption that someone sometime might actually try to read the things I post there which roughly approximate what you might call a blog. Otherwise just trying to ignore that the sky has filled with smoke again...
Time to shill one of my small "for me!" projects: a fansite for one of my fave characters, Hans von Hammer, aka Enemy Ace! 🛩️ :blobcatsnugs: Forever a WIP but please enjoy what I have thus far!
I'll be share some sections and other fun stuff from it in the coming weeks.
Please mind the warning page! You should be about 12-13+ due to the topics discussed.
@RapidWeaver is on sale today in the Indie Apps Sale. Despite the “weaver” name it’s really much more of a strict theme-based “static site generator” with a nice Mac GUI, than a freeform #WebDesign tool.
Which is actually just the kind of thing I’m looking for!
I’m going to try redesigning my hand-coded #Neocities site https://appletalk.neocities.org because like we learned in the 90s, it’s really a pain to edit the navigation menu on every single page when you add some new content.
All right nerds, this is your time to shine. I've been thinking about setting up a #blog or three on #Neocities (not stuck on it but it's where I have an account). Are there #StaticSiteGenerators which can handle more than one blog? I would prefer a #CMS style interface but it's fine if it's not available.
I guess what I'm asking is, what is the modern equivalent of Greymatter (RIP), Movable Type, or a self-hosted Wordpress install these days? I mostly want to write and upload easily.
