Yesterday I logged into my #Neocities account and was surprised to see in the stats that my #blog is getting consistent views, despite the fact that there's nothing on the homepage except a title lol.
I'm thinking I might write up something in #HTML for the homepage since I don't know enough #CSS to style a #web page. Better than nothing. 😆
If you have a website with neo cities, just know that the creator actually likes AI, and will add it again based on this post alone. Moratorium on freaking out about AI https://kyledrake.com/writings/ai
This is different from the sarcastic April 1st Daria chatbot, check the comments on the post for links to Github comments laying out the "real" chatbot
I released a "final" version of my #guile API for #neocities that also has a CLI tool.
It's a simple project to start learning about how does guile-hall work, get used to autotools and all that.
Hey uh, how hard is it to start a #neocities (#geocities ?) website if you don't know a single bit of #HTML and the last time you took a coding class was java 101 9 years ago?
So I'm currently toying around with NeoCities, and decided to trial it by building your classic mid '90s Geocities/Tripod/Angelfire pastiche website.
Some of the most important elements are already in place.
Tile background? Large font? Heading in bright pink with a shadow? Unusual colour choices? Random cat gifs? Under construction gif? Check! Check! Check!
In the true spirit of the '90s DIY web, some more pages (including the links page) are coming soon.
(I'm thinking of adding a page dedicated to either Britney or a nu-metal band.)
I added a directory section to my website for links to other people's sites as well as handy resources and other fun things on the internet that I had bookmarked.
If we're mutuals on here and I somehow missed your site, get in touch with me if you want it added to the directory. I prefer non-social media/non-commercial links on this list; check out Neocities if you want to make a free DIY website, or consider starting a blog!
I spent the last week scraping through a terabyte of GeoCities archives and collecting ALL THE #88x31 buttons! In the end, I gathered 29257 unique buttons (75k with duplicates). They are available at https://hellnet.work/8831/
For creatives who want to get started with a basic HTML portfolio site on a free host like neocities, this template is helpful https://john-doe.neocities.org
Yeah, you're really gonna see which companies are just gonna allow the AI to scrape all their stuff now. I'm a copyleft/creative commons kinda guy. But if you have art that you don't want stolen, the answer is simple.
MAKE YOUR OWN WEBSITE and put your art there (edit: and use that Glaze type of stuff on your art that wrecks AI, just to be sure)! Neocities is SO easy to set up! Or your own domain and hosting via porkbun, GoDaddy (non-WordPress) - anything at all other than proprietary/walled stuff!
I’m now planning to set up accounts on #NeoCities and #ArtStation. For those who have used either (or both) sites, how are these places? Are there anything I need to learn/watch out for?
I'm considering creating another personal #website, but for more formal things like writing articles and programming updates, as opposed to the usual #blog stuff I have on my #Neocities site. It'll also have a simpler design, optimised more for reading than having a fun appearance.
I'll most likely buy a domain from #Namecheap; but Neocities requires a subscription in order to use a custom #domain, so does anyone have any suggestions for cheap or free web #hosting that I could use?
