WOW! Comet C/12P Pons-Brooks was epic this evening. Visible to the naked eye from Strath Taieri. This is a single shot as the comet was setting behind some clouds! Its altitude was under 2 degrees! #comet#NewZealand
Back to my favourite place in the world! #Hiking the Copland track to Welcome Flat Hut and enjoy the hot pools up there 😎
The hike itself is not incredible, some very nice views on the river, wonderful forest and impressive suspended bridges (pics to follow), but the 16km feel long sometimes. The reward, however, is absolutely amazing: comfortable hut in the middle of the mountains and forest, no touristic planes and helicopters to ruin the vibe (quite rare in NZ), natural hot pools and and stargazing just next to the hut. This is paradise. #CoplandTrack#WelcomeFlatHut#hotPool#hike#mountains#mountain#WestCoast#Aotearoa#NewZealand#NZ
If anyone on the South Island has >20 cm telescopes that could be driven to a particular stretch of road south of Dunedin; the asteroids #Didymos and #Dimorphos will apparently run in front of a star as seen from there on 2024 May 5 - https://lagrange.oca.eu/fr/blog .
Not much notice; but maybe someone is already planning something?
Final slide. People love the museum. Shame local council and government think of us as a financial transaction rather than an investment. #MUSEUMS#newzealand
