"The entrenched impunity that OHCHR (the U.N. rights agency) has reported on for many years cannot persist," High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said in a report on the situation in Gaza and in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
"For the civilians, waking up in the morning and trying to feed, just one meal a day for the family, is the biggest challenge. And, really being alive because every time I ask a person how he or she is doing, all that they say is we’re just grateful that we are alive."

UN report deplores 'rapid deterioration' of rights in West Bank
Volker Turk, the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, said the use of unnecessary or disproportionate force against Palestinians in the West Bank was "extremely troubling".
The #OHCHR said it had also recorded mass arbitrary detentions, unlawful detentions and cases of reported torture and other forms of ill-treatment of Palestinian detainees. It said some 4,785 Palestinians had been detained in the West Bank since Oct. 7.

At least 17,487 people have been killed in Gaza and more than 56,400 wounded since the war began, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. At least 1,200 people were killed in Israel during Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (#OHCHR) deployed a field team on Friday to investigate an air strike on the Ukrainian village of #Hroza that left at least 52 people dead.
A missile slammed into a cafe and grocery store in the village on Thursday as people gathered to mourn a fallen Ukrainian soldier. OCHR said it had likely been fired by Russia but that it was too early to say for certain.
