@franklinlopez

The fedivers is all so should not be used for anything that should be P2P encrypted. It's important to keep this clear to users by not being focused on the fig leaf of "hardening" security as the is non it's a very successful open media network and it's value lies in this.

How hard would it be to make an AP implementation that was modular enough that all other AP server software could become relatively simple plugins (modulo the inherent complexity of supporting their post types, like the PeerTube player)? Is any existing AP server implementation modular like this?

witchescauldron,

@steve @freakazoid

This is one of the basic ideas behind the project, but it's hard to move people and community's beyond the individualism of our current tech/thinking.

governance is based on the thing you learn from history is to never trust a king.

and the messy path we are going down, Libertarian cats are completely pointless at this stage of mess, anyone got a plan?

A whole load of non "owned" social tech projects on grassroots social subject/path of course things like this only work with shared values

And the current core standard is also needed to escape the that comes so "naturally".

Our current crap funding and agendas are a part of this extinction level event https://news.sky.com/story/world-has-lost-battle-to-stop-glaciers-melting-and-sea-level-rising-un-meteorological-chief-says-12898899

The last 20 years of has obviously been both pushing this problem and doing almost nothing to stop it. On the tech side, we are still being prats on his.

Please think about this , thanks.

We self-host nearly 3000 videos on our server http://visionon.tv, and you can watch over, 8000 more federated videos on activism and technology. Self-hosting costs real money which we don't have, if you would like to support this then set up a recurring donation here https://opencollective.com/open-media-network to keep his space available for people to step away from the mess we are all in.

If you would like an eduction on what a different world could look like https://visionon.tv/videos/local?sort=-trending&s=3 spend a few hours a day watching videos on then comment and share them with your friends - be the change you would like to see.

Been trying to work with people. They are unbelievably vile with no idea they are behaving badly.

This is a mess we should not put up with, ideas?

Hamishcampbell, to random

The poison that is pop is that it pushes away shared world-views, and thus is a useful companion to the dominant of our economic mess.

Both of these ideologies are now dead and rotting, but this rot is festering the current mess spreading.

We need to compost

Building consensuses on shared world views helps with this, talk to your nabbers.

is a grassroots media project that aims to provide an alternative to mainstream media by creating and distributing independent video content. The project has been running for over ten years and is based on the principles of openness, collaboration, and decentralization. It uses open-source software and decentralized platforms to create and distribute activist video content.

Hamishcampbell,

One of the key features of the project is its participation in the Open Media Network (), a decentralized network of media sites that share content and promote independent media that is not controlled by any single entity. The project emphasizes the importance of grassroots community-driven media, where people and groups can create and share their own content.

    @GossiTheDog A lovely comment, yes more to compost, do you have a shovel

    witchescauldron, to fediverse

    we are going to have waves of people coming into "our" counter currents, bringing a lot of non-native, unthinking blinded mess with them, they will push this mess over us as common sense then they will retreat back to and point at us covered in mess... "look these guys are covered in mess we can't work with them...

    Yes this is bad behaver, ideas please?

    witchescauldron,

    The question am asking is who is creating the mess and the very uncommon sense but obvues answer is "they" are.

    Composting comes to mind, do you need a shovel

    And yes, the "us" and "them" are in quote marks, to highlight the need for more composting.

    Meany have a troubling view of theory and practice. All good horizontalists understand that they come from practice. At the basis of this is that is working through practice to build theory.

    To start from theory go ground and round and round then try and put this into practice, ends in a dizzy mess. When this mess is imposed as a solution, we obviously get more to compost or academic wank to clean up.

    hamishcampbell,
    @hamishcampbell@mastodon.social avatar

    We are building from what works with based on theory from practices.

    Good to engage with this flow to practice activism. Please try not to push mess our way, focus is important.

    The "protocol wars" of new protocols, including , , and , am suggesting that bridges between them are a good solution to the current issues. All of these protocols are and native, which is a positive development. However, the cultures of these protocols are different and this can create messiness in the discussions.

    I advocate for a grassroots culture and urge people to focus on building bridges rather than adding to the mess.

    Hamishcampbell,

    @raccoon so we ignore this mess and push the content across with a bridge - we make the protocols into "dumb pipes" this is the path of the

    I understand this is the best of the BAD solutions, but it's easy and most impotently "permissionless" so we can seed diversity. From this we might get somewhere not

    This shouldn't be a burden put on the individual. I know there are bad people everywhere, but we can surely do better

    @jaz @evan @TheSteve0 @mekkaokereke

    At the we run two contriversal small instances and have little problem with SPAM and hate, we very rearlly block - but we do nurture community, we build "trust".

    Federating "blocking" is a bad way of building "trust" and is a dangerous way to spread control/fear and lack of community.

    On balance, with out "democratic governance," it's likely a bad idea

    Hamishcampbell, to fediverse

    OK, had to close then open new accounts on because of , the spam is starting agen - the is an update that allows you to put new accounts on ask/moderation, we need to upgrade at some point to get this.

    Hamishcampbell,

    Interesting this is exactly the way our ten-year-old project handles flows as is the "new" moderation in ... if we don't manage to go to the world, the world come to us... well more like the world walks right past us looking the other way and takes the big bundle of bills from capitalism.

    This is normal, we are still doing needed work, but better would be good to :)

    We are having an increasing signal-to-noise problem as more people flood back to the we need much stronger tools and myths and traditions to mediate this mess... shovels and composting comes to mind

    @fediversenews

    So, I think I've dug as deeply into the drama as I need to, and settled on some conclusions.

    • Most basically, the best insights came from seeing conversations on another platform: discord.

    Admins from both sides were talking. And as it's a chat platform, the engagement and conversation was clearly more direct, free, expressive and clarifying.

    If the fediverse wants to be the new internet, seriously, it needs to growup and move on from just microblogging.

    1/🧵

    Hamishcampbell,

    @maegul @fediversenews

    This is noise - the is over 40 codebases for this to be signal you would likely have to be talking about and even then it's still kinda noise.

    is bringing a "signal-to-noise" issue to the this is not a big problem, but it is something we need to mediate.

    Composting and shovels come to mind

    If you take the business wank out, this is exactly how the ten-year-old project works https://blueskyweb.xyz/blog/4-13-2023-moderation masked

    witchescauldron,

    So good not to piss on them for this. But fine to piss on them for other social resions.

    Looking at their tech, think they might be doing a good job, it is looking very much like the ten-year-old project being implemented
