In Montana, parents just won the "right" to remove kids from a classroom with a #lesbian teacher. Scary, anti-#LGBTQ Pink Scare redux? Of course! But Frenchtown is fighting back and WINNING. So, let's discuss important #ParentalRights principles this case teaches us! 👇
I used to work at the Starbucks in the #yeg City Centre Mall. Every week or so, a kid would come to the cafe and ask for a cup of water and a breakfast sandwich.
They would always pay in carefully counted coin and over time noticed they were wearing the same clothes.
One day, I managed to catch them on the way out as I was stocking the condiment stand and asked if they were okay.
I didn't see her for a couple of weeks but when she turned up again, she was wearing clean clothes. She managed to get connected with a social worker who found her safe, warm shelter.
"Parental rights" is a transphobic dog whistle and puts kids in danger.
I'll never forget this young woman. Some years later, I hope she's doing well today.
I remember how all of us behind the counter expressed concern. That was a great team. They cared. #TeamBowtie
"The issue of what books are allowed to be carried by school libraries, Florida states, should be settled at the "ballot box." According to the state's filing, public school libraries "are not a forum for free expression."

“There’s considerable irony in that those who seek 2 limit access 2 #books in school libraries often say they’re fighting 4 #ParentalRights,” said #KenPaulson, director of #FreeSpeechCenter @ #MiddleTennesseeStateUniversity. “If government #speech determines what books can be in the #library, the government is essentially saying your children can only see the ideas that the government has approved.
@iuculano I agree that the book banning is deeply problematic, but I don't think it's "authoritarian" until the books are banned from everywhere, including regular libraries and bookstores.
That parents still have the choice to go to a public library and check the book out for their kids does support the "parental rights" narrative.
A minority of haters should not and cannot control the rights of our country.
RALLY FOR TRANS YOUTH
Activists and supporters gather at the Manitoba legislature Sunday during the Rally for Trans Youth. The event started with speeches at the legislature and was followed by a march down Broadway to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

Conservatives are importing the USA's dumbest moral panic into Canada and 0 people on team "parental rights" get asked how if they expect LGBTQ kids to be removed from class.
Reporters consistently let parents situate themselves outside of reality, pretending this is all hypotheticals when it's actually kids' lives.
"Don't you dare tell my child who you are!!!" Is such cowardice. #parentalrights#canqueer#transrightsarehumanrights
@dmacphee maybe we shouldnt call it the "parents rights" movement, since thats clearly not the point -- otherwise they wouldnt be after actively taking rights away from supportive parents
rather its the "my way or the highway" movement, except the highway is poor mental health, prison and death
@caitp@dmacphee co-opting language is its own threat; happening a lot (e.g. "my body my choice" for anti-vax idiots) and using it in titles just validates the approach :(
